Annoyed with SKODA dealer and rSAP !

Featured Replies

Hi All, I am a very happy owner of an Elegance estate 170 (manual), great car (apart from the paintwork on the front bumper pealing off) but thats another story. I am getting infuriated as I need a phone for work that will connect to the head unit I have, the latest RNS-510 confirmed by the dealer today as it has voice activation. I went to the dealership to ask for a list of phones that are compatible. I have an HTC Wildfire, which I know will not connect so would like to buy a sim free phone until my contract expires then upgrade to an S3 or the like. I was told by the dealership that this head unit connects to "nearly all phones", and explaining to the dealer that I have tried a lot of different phones and none would connect, well only one did, they sat with me for a while and we went through every option on my Wildfire menu to connect to the car which it did not.....

It did not connect......we then printed off the official Skoda compatibility list of phone for the Octavia/Superb my phone was obviously not on it.

Earlier in the day I went to Carphone Warehouse who were very helpful, the manager tried to connect his new Nokia Lumia (arn't all Nokias rSAP?)...it did not connect. So came back to the shop with the list from Skoda....right, lets get this sorted..

The number they stocked on the list was ZERO!! The manager behind the counter laughed "I have not even hear of some of these phones, Benq-siemens stopped making phones 5 years ago!"

We had a closer look as while at the Skoda dealership he showed me that his phone worked fine, an old Samsung Galaxy S, great.....is it on the list? What do you think? No? The only SAMSUNG on the list was a SGH-J700 apparnetly brought out in 2008!!!!

Come on SKoda this is unacceptable, in a world where we do everything on our phones is it too much to ask that a) we have a unit that can be easily connected to phones and B) try to have an updated list of which phones work.....

Any help would be great, I need a phone SiM free that will connect via bluetooth and also be able to support e-mails from a domain name that is not yahoo, hotmail, or google.

See the Sticky Post at the top of the Superb 2 forum - posted originally by me about this topic.

You dont say how old your car is, but i presume it's 2010 or before - all models 2011 and 12 should work with ANY bluetooth enabled phone.

Al.

You must have an earlier car pre mid 2010. Units made after that will connect with any phone via HFP (the type of bluetooth most phones, including your wildfire, uses). The Bluetooth box in your car only uses RSAP Bluetooth. You can change the Bluetooth box under the drivers seat for a newer one that has HFP and RSAP and any new phone (and the wildfire) will connect perfectly

My 8 year old Nokia works fine but it is just a simple phone for a simple person.:rofl:

The Skoda compatibility list is woefully out of date and has no modern handsets listed on it. On a 2008-mid 2010 car you need an RSAP compatible phone, essentially any Nokia Symbian based phone and many more. Look in the phones menu and enable "Remote Sim Access", or similar option.

Apart from purchasing a compatible phone, you can replace the bluetooth module under the drivers seat with the latest one and if you get it from ebay its not that expensive, and its a direct swap. There is a comprehensive thread on changing the module, and also the required part number.

The RNS-510 version fitted to the car is not really relevant since all that does is control the module under the seat, and this is the part that is relevant. The bluetooth module is completely separate from the RNS-510.

Many thanks for comments car was registered feb 2010. Dealer told me I had the newe version as it has voice control. Went to another phone shop and they told me the changing the bluetooth module was a hoax? I'm confused.

You need to change the bluetooth module - end of story. Can be found for around £100 at the Bay. Simply plug´n´play.

I've just got a very simple phone - it's not at all smart! It pairs with my car, but the phone book doesn't transfer. I then added a new number, and found that the phone book transfers numbers stored on the phone, but not on the SIM card! Every time I get out of the car, and therefore disconnect the phone from the car, I get two messages from my network provider telling me that they have updated the connections on my phone; that's the message I normally get when the SIM has been removed.

So I tried with my spare phone. That paired, but wouldn't transfer anything on the SIM. When I added numbers to the phone itself, it said phone book transfer failed. This phone, with the same SIM, doesn't get the same message from my network when I disconnect it.

Both these phones worked and transferred the phone book on my previous car which was three years older (BMW). Has anyone come across this before?

i changed my bluetooth box under seat no more problems my car was jan 2010 £100 justs plug and play.
