Citigo/Up! insurance?

Featured Replies

No because it is 10 years old and works fine,

maybe how about 106/saxo that does not.

Most of the 10+ year old systems are hybrid electric operating hydraulic.

They work fine

Most of the more recent systems are electric only and they also work fine.

The problems here come from people expecting a battery to last 10 years with no maintainance still.

Or some of the stuff from this decade that is only 2 years old in 2012 & we need to see how it is in 2015.

Lets think of Toyota iQ's that first came to the UK in 2009 and had to have steering & ECU & Brake pipe recalls on models up to Nov. 2010.

These are now getting their first MOT's and are going out of Manufacturers warranty.

Design fault, yes they had a problem, but it doesn't mean electric power assist steering doesn't work.

People are now rushing to get the EGR checked out and replaced before the warranty is out, other wise in 2 months time they might be £600 out of pocket.

I wonder what is going to happen to Toyota iQ values on a 2009 model by 2013!!

Now the EGR is a stupid system, but the manufacturers could always use ad blue or catch cans.

That however would mean more servicing and fleets/buyers don't like that.

I'd prefer an extra service item, such as drain the catch can, but many won't.

I was not raising the subject of vehicles that generally work just fine and apart from maintenance or even no maintenance & are almost trouble free.

Almost every car at sometimes works fine.

Thats apart from the ones that do not work fine on a higher percentage than other ones!!

Many of those are French built IME

Even though i have had many faultless French cars as do many French people driving in France do.

THe problem years ago could be part prices here or availability.

My vehicles work fine all the time because i have never bought a wrong one luckily or if i did on purpose i knew the fault and fixed it.

The subject is untill you know that they work you dont know.

You do not know how a car is at 4 years old untill many of a new model gets to 4 years old.

Toyota took from 2008 & first registered in the UK from 2009 untill now to find whats wrong with their first models.

*They now give a 5 year Warranty on the 2012 models*

They recalled grudgingly & slowly on several issues and are not recalling yet on EGR's or the Clutches that are failing prematurely rather than through fair wear and tear.

I had 2 post 2010 CVT box ones that were faultless.

THe iQ steering fault was a Brake/Steering fault due to the complicated system & the ECU failing to cope with the short wheelbase on a rough road surface at slow speeds. (the brakes were being applied and also the engine power was being cut as tho there was a Traction loss)

They have VSC+, ABS, EBD, BA, Combine that with an active fault and it was a scary situation for many.

The next ECU problem was engine related.(just needed flashed)

The Brake pipe problem was a Manufactures/suppliers contamination problem, r(are but could be a serious situation that needed dealing with, and it means the cars got their brake fluid change saving the owners paying for it.).

All should be fixed now under re-call and warranty.

The Clutch & EGR problem are rearing their head now and owners are having to warn other owners via the forum because most Toyota Dealerships are not yet getting a Notice or passing on the Information.

(The EGR problem is a major safety issue because you can have power cut in a very unsafe driving situation and this is going to be a major issue that Toyota will need to deal with more professionally than their Dealerships are treating the matter)

Happens with lots of vehicles,or has in the past, but its surprising to see it happen in this decade. JMO obviously.

1970,s i started playing with cars and engines and mid to late 70's i served my time as a mechanic, so seen a few cars through that time.

Egr have been on cars for a number of years along with DLR's and radar braking systems. ;)

I think your worrying unecessarily

They do not worry me, or bother me about future expense to my pocket,

i choose not to have them or need them.

Plenty of simple cars that require driver imput to switch things on and off when required available for a few years yet.

£149.17 for the citigo

No Automatic Up! to do a comparison quote on, but

£122.82

fully comp with 12years no claim, on a Citigo SE automatic 5 door.

That will probably get quoted cheaper between 1am - 5am on the comparison sites.

my vRS is only £134.

Owners of the Toyota iQ don't appear to agree with your concerns over their reliability. The iQ came an impressive 6th overall in the 2012 JD Power Survey.

The cars ranged from 1 to 3 years old meaning that the early iQ's will have been captured.

Just goes to show that you shouldn't always believe what you read on forums :giggle:

The thing that amuses me is why admiral, elephant, diamond and bell all give different quotes?

They are all the same company!

It's called marketing. In the same way Seat, Skoda, VW and Audi is 'the same company' the product is differentiated in a way that allows them to appeal to different customers and therefore allows VAG to charge different prices and capture more of the available market.

It's all about maximising revenue and being more profitable.

Comparing insurance quotes is kind of pointless!?

There is so much more to it than the perceived value of the car. Postcode, no claims bonus, age, sex etc. etc.

It does suprise me that on a like-for-like quote the CityGo is more expensive to insure than an equivalent Up!

Silver1011,

People who Buy, own or drive iQ's love them as i did. I think nearly all have accepted niggiling faults that were succsefully dealt with

since it was such a different vehicle and almost bound to have snagging faults. (if they had a model that did need attention, not all did.)

Many and it is many just want the Manufacturer and the dealers to listen to faults that are appearing 'now' in vehicles that are 24-30 months old and deal with these faults in the way thay had to deal with the many vehicles that require 4 differing faults to be repaired or replacement parts in the first 20 months.

They dont want to hear from other owners when the manufacturer is telling Dealers that there is a known problem.

They 'Toyota' have the problems sorted in vehicles that were built from November 2010 with the Euro5 engine.

(i had a ex demonstrator then a new one that was totally trouble free)

JD Power survey is fair enough, but not when it has World or USA results and the 1.3 iQ3 (Scion) is only just on sale in the US.

The concerns and problems are with the 1.0 iQ & iQ2 (1.0 Ltr 3 cylinder engine)

not the iQ3 (1.3, 4 cylinder)

The iQ/iQ2 Multidive (auto) does not have the problems of the iQ/iQ2 Manual,

and a lot of owners have the Multidrive.

Surveys can be like Statistics and Averages, 50% of all statistcs etc etc

*so you have a Survey of anonymous owners that comment on lack of boot space in a car they bought that has no boot,

but do not comment on the pathetic head lights or interior light that only a blind passenger would not be aware of..

(You see the small and unique design with great front passenger space and no boot when you walk in the showroom to buy your vehicle, you know what it is and buy it or not)

you do not know the lights are rubbish untill you have it home to drive in the dark or live with it a few days.

or you get comments on a forum just like this from people that own the vehicle concerned in the same country as you.*

People that love their cars and want to keep them and drive them but are getting let down by the Dealerships.

A bit familiar to Some mk 2 vRS, Polo GTi, Cupra owners with Oil Consumption problems, but does that show in a JD Power Survey

As i said i was an iQ owner that was 100% satisfied with the vehicle and would have said so in a survey.

If you are interested in actual real owners in the UK's problems and experiences,

also some Mainland Europe and in the USA with the 1.3 Scion.

but obviously the forum also shows Owners that are forum users that give views where they have no problems,

and many who actually worked with the vehicles or on their vehicles

just google.

loss of power on acceleration

important if your warranty is about to run out.

You will also see a thread with opinions on the JD Power survey.

Of course it is!

It's just that as it is insurance, I didn't think of it that way
