TURBO HELP!

Featured Replies

Hi there

I own a skoda superb which has a BBS/BSS <-- engine canremeber which way round it goes lol sorry

At the moment ive been going through quite a rough time with my car in july last year (2011) my turbo went and i got it replaced. In november (2011) my cam belt slipped and had to get an engine rebuild. whilst it being rebuilt the clutch master cylinder went. thats been replaced as well after alot of ££££ it was finished about a week ago. since the turbo i have clocked about 20,000 miles as cabbie just to find out my turbo is making a whiring noise now i dont no alot of mechanics but i no a little.

A turbo is made for better air intake right? so what if i removed the turbo and to an air induction kit on would this help or make it worse just untill i can get the money together for a turbo

Thanks for reading and you time :)

you can buy the main part of the turbo for £150 on ebay, and fitit to the manifould housing yourself. If you removed the turbo you would lose 20-30 bhp and mpg would be horrible even with induction kit.

problem with this is that i dont really trust ebay as i have been ripped off with these sites before

it is the warrenty is 12,000 miles but unfortunatly ive done 20,000

bummer

If this is turbo siren wailing you are hearing don't worry about it, sounds like a cop car in the distance, the unit will go on for ages before it breaks if it breaks that is, most re-cons do it anyway.

My turbo wails at a quite high pitch once over 2500 it's come on quite quickly ..,out of interest how much is it to replace the turbo and fitted?

I highly doubt it's the turbo failing. I drove my 1.9 for almost 312500 miles without any problems and the car was even chip tuned for all of it's life. It's still running fine, but as others have written it sounds like a cop car sometimes. The sound is not related to the turbo itself though, i found out, that it is the air intake, which somehow makes the sound. Changing hoses and filters have fixed it for me a few times in the past.

Alternatively i would suggest trying a product like this (sorry bout danish website):

http://www.landberg.dk/shop/bell-add-servicerens-212p.html

http://www.landberg.dk/shop/bell-add-turbo-840p.html

Just remember that the car has to be VERY hot before you apply these products. So give it a hell'ish drive just before you clean it. I've used it myself at a 100K miles intervals and been very happy with it.

Has the oil pump been looked at?

Very common fault and the first sign of dropping oil pressure is turbo failure.

Good point. I think this is a 2.0PD - with the self-destruct hex bar coupling between the slave balance shaft and the oil pump.

rotodiesel.

oh i failed to notice that
