Loss of Power After Remap

Featured Replies

Had a Shark remap about six weeks ago ,it felt fine at first but there there is now a massive drop in performance . I have done a search on the forum and a torn diverter valve seems a possible cause . Would this cause a engine warning light to come on ? There are no warning lights on the dash at all . Any help appreciated , car is a 2006 vrs petrol.

Split diverter valve wouldn't cause a warning light to come on. I am surprised that they didn't recommend that you change your diverter valve for the latest revision when you got the remap done.

I did mention it to the guy who mapped it , he reckoned it would be ok with a stage 1 map .

Then he didn't know what he was talking about. This has been a well documented problem for over 5 years.

Car is booked in for a service at my local garage in 2 weeks , will get them to do diverter valve when it is in , wont do any harm to fit the revised valve .

Thats a very arrogant or at least bold thing to say to a Shark Performance technician.

Can you eloborate please?

Not bold or arrogant, it's fact.

The diverter valve on the tfsi is widely known to be succeptable to failure following a remap, it's been discussed on this and other VAG forums countless times over the years. Any tuner worth their salt should recommend upgrading this part if you remap a tfsi.

100% right

I'm surprised if that's the case - I didn't even have to take my car to Shark to find out about the failed DV - Rob advised me to get to changed as a matter of course before having the remap.

Have you tried checking for a fault code? Has the battery been disconected since the remap? I had a similar issue, and it was fixed by recalibrating the throttle position sensor. It's also possible that you just get used to it; some of the time I'm sure the remap has vanished, other days I wonder how long my front tyres are going to last...

Part no. for the revised valve you'll need: 06H 145 710 D

Should be £45-£50 from a dealer.

No its not a case of me getting used to it there is very poor pull from low revs ,even stadard it was MUCH better . It was Sharks new dealer in Scotland that mapped the car , he advised me the diverter would be fine . There is also a lot of turbo whistle when accelerating that is why I suspect the dv . Not had a chance to check for fault code been working away from home ,no time to get it looked at .

cheers for the part no mate will get one ordered up .

could the the maf sensors failed , i would disconnect it and then try it.

If it's on the original DV then change it anyway. The age of your car means it will have the pathetic plastic seal on it which splits, only a matter of time even if it is still intact. FWIW, mine whistled loudly too until I changed it.

It will certainly feel flat with a torn Diverter valve. Ben needs to re-educate his dealers then if they are giving this advise , as it will tarnish his name

I would like to thank all the guys on here who advised me to get a new diverter valve fitted . I am just back from the garage after getting it fitted and the difference is incredible ! the old valve was indeed knackered with a massive hole in the diaphragm .

I had been unable to get the new one fitted due to work commitments so have been driving about with little or no boost for weeks , much to my annoyance !

Shark have a great name on here but I do feel they should inform their new dealers about the diverter valve issues on the tfsi engine .

Glad you got it sorted, I will address the issue with the dealer you dealt with
