Skoda Octavia 1.8 tsi

Featured Replies

Hello

I know I shouldnt be asking this question on here as its kinda anti skoda ; )

Anyways, what is another similar car to the faelifted Skoda Octavia 1.8 tsi petrol manual hatchback ?

i.e. one with something like a 1.8 litre turbo petrol engine, 160 BHP, 184 lbs/ft of torque, similar weight.

Now I know, there is the VAG cars like Volkswagen Passat , Audi A4 etc

I'm looking for other brands that are similar to the 1.8 tsi Octavia.

I think the 1.8 tsi has good torque for an engine of this size and not many other cars around of this size with decent torque.

I went for the Diesel in the end but Peugeot have the 1.6THP engine. It has very very similer figures as the 1.8 TSI in that its 156hp and 181 lbs of torque.

Vauxhall have the 1.6T Engine that drops into an Insignia or Astra (estate)? Its 180hp and 174 lbs torque,

Ford 1.6 Ecoboost most models can come with it, 182hp and 174lbs torque

there is plenty of competition to the 1.8TSI, most manufactuers have rivals for the TSI.

Thanks

What kind of Peugeot car is that ? 306, 406 etc ?

I presume the 1.6 THP is a petrol car ?

I know they use it in the 508, little bit bigger that an Octavia. Ive got a diesel one after swapping it for my Octy 1.8 TSI. Im glad i made the swap.

Why are you glad you made the swap from the 1.8 tsi ? If you don't mind me asking

I think its unfair for me to really go off on one on a Skoda forum, particually as I know one or two members and its a good friendly place.

What I think is fair to say is test drive, test drive and test drive.! I test drove a Superb, Peugeot 508, Toyota Avensis, Passat and Hyundai i40. The Peugeot was the nicest for me and a lot of car for the money. I personally think the reviews of it are correct andf the build quality is second to none.

I just never really got on with my old Octy, the engine was a peach but after my recent test drive, not any better than some rivals.

You must test drive!! Everyone has different ideas of what they want from a car, try them all, no harm in testing and looking!!

I may do, I may not. Im not bothered for brand. I tend to get 4-5 cars in mind and drive them all. That way you havce the ulimate bargaining tool! I have nothing against skoda but the stats speak for themselves. Ive had 3, all brand new and only 1 would I jump back into in a flash.

Thanks for replies

So any more cars equivalent to the octy 1.8 tsi ?

There probably are but I just down know them offhand and kind of a hard thing to search for precisely.

When discussing car buying with friends I always said if I had to go out tomorrow and change my car I'd get the same one 1.8 TSi Elegance hatch - except now apparently I can't! Daft Skoda.

Thats an interesting list as a couple of them interest me. Can I ask how the others compared to the Octavia? Im guessing the Toyota was the overall weakest?

No it was the Hyundai I40, all the gadets and equipments and a resonable price but very limited choice of engine (the 1.7 diesel didnt have enough grunt for me) and despite what people say, they are no where near yet in terms of build and refinement. I had I hopes but was dissapointed.

The Toyota was ok but a little bland.

The Passat was dissapointing, lot of space but for the premuim in price I expected more toys and a more excitable test drive. Im still amazed with what I bought, it really was the best of the bunch in my opinion.

It is interesting how we assess "toys". I changed a wheel today (alloy - supposed to be lightweight - ha, ha) and started thinking what gadgets would I really like (gadgets that don't actually exist in normal cars) instead of the pile of electronic stuff I never use.

Here is one idea to ponder. Just ahead of each rear wheel, and just behind each front wheel, a hydraulic jack. I.e. a pad normally hidden inside the chassis sill, that, powered by the car itself, lowers down to the road and lifts that corner/wheel just clear of the road. I'm sure it could be engineered but I have no idea if it would be viable in ordinary family cars.

Even more help would be truly lightweight (but strong and practical) wheels!!

Do any Seat Leons/Ibizas come with the same 1.8tsi engine?

Anyone else have any cars comparable to the Octy 1.8 tsi engine interms of BHP, Torque, Weight, 0-60 ?

Interesting verdicts. Ive driven the Passat and Avensis and came to the same conclusions as you. Personally i just cant get my head around owning French after all the issues friends and colleagues have repeatedly had with them, even with brand new ones. :(

Citroen C5 use the same 1.6THP engine as the Peugeot

Mercedes have the C180 -154hp and 185lbs torque

Think thats about all thats comparable really.

Ok, it's just you said above :

" there is plenty of competition to the 1.8TSI, most manufactuers have rivals for the TSI. "

Joking ; )

But in effect, there is only a few that are non VAG that are in same league as 1.8 tsi in regard to BHP, torque and 0-60 for roughly a 1.8 petrol engine.

merc c180

Opel insignia 1.6 t

Ford Eco boost 1.6

Peugeot 508
