Found my old car for sale on eBay and autotrader

Featured Replies

While being lazy this morning I was looking through eBay and came across this.

It my old octavia that I traded in back in April. I can vouch for it as being a good run about but I would haggle on the price a bit since I paid just under £2600 for it last year with 82k. Just thought I would post it up incase anyone has been looking at it.

A trader, with the picture evidently taken on his drive...?

Yeah I thought that, I traded it in at benfield in Carlisle Cumbria, he has obviously got it from an auction. It may also be worth noting that it has been involved in at least 2 RTC's. Neither serious but still should affect the price.

Lots of traders work from home.

2 1/2 years ago, I got about £3k Part Ex (I forget the exact figure) for my '53 Octy 1 VRS with 80k on the clock. I'd say he's dreaming ...

Just returned from Consett, the outlaws live there.

Robson St. is a fairly grotty back lane, terraced houses on one side, old lock-ups and small units in converted buildings on the other. Derwentside Motors also run a valeting business from the same lock-up.

Those photos are obviously taken on his (rather more salubrious) private drive - I doubt anyone would bother to go look at a car if the photos were taken from outside the "workshop"

One of my old cars recently popped up in Melksham

Mark 1 Octavia, 2.0 Ambiente, Eucalyptus Green. I bought it for £7999 with 13K on the clock in September of 2004. I traded it in 2 years later after a split inlet manifold and a poor dealer (and 30K miles a year commute) and I got a diesel instead. Traded it in for £4500.

It was up for sale for £3000 in 2012. Bonkers money for a 9 year old car IMO

My mates old -07 Mercedes E class just popped up on a national car trading website over here. Two problems with it. Its worth 5000 quid, at most, and its listed for 11000. And last time I drove it, (six months ago) it had 320k miles on the clock, but miraculously, now it only has 55k...

I mean, you can get away with backing it maybe, 50k. But 265k miles? The worst thing is that the car has a brand new interior and looks brand new. They'll probably manage to sell it to some poor bugger.

I'd report it to the authorities.

I'd report it to the authorities.

Its no use. Under Swedish law, they aren't doing anything illegal until they sell the car. And even then, they can claim that they didn't know. The worst thing that can happen is that they're forced to take the car back and refund the money.

There was a local car trader that sold written off/totaled US cars that had been "repaired" in Latvia. Personally it think they just swapped the VIN on the first one. The authorities couldn't do anything.

Two excellent examples. Both had substandard repair work done and both had their meters manipulated to half the original mileage. Completely legal.

Surely they deal with 'Ringers' there more efficiently there than the 'stolen car squads' do here, being in possession of must have some form of 'reset' or handling or criminal conspiracy

criminality without actually offering for sale.

You get stopped in Poland with a UK registrered vehicle and they are quick enough to plug in and check details.

(just as quick to let you go if you are lucky enough to have a high enough value note in the Fuse compartment or someplace)

Not like its just a 'VIN' plate & couple of chassis and engine numbers anymore.

All Glass is identifiable, Major Components even airbags all have the Manufacturing identification & ID traceability.

Most importantly the ECU's can shout out exactly where they originated from.
