drilling the air box?

Featured Replies

I designed and built a custom air intake system on the VX220 turbo and did a day of testing on the roller between oe / oe drilled and trumpets removed / and oe intake hose size to turbo and 70mm pipework versus my full true 80mm (i/d) intake and 100mm intake to air box which had further work done also using an 80mm AMM

Long story short with the recirc upgrade gained 35bhp and 36ft / lb without any remap

On a car with the recirc already in place making very good power still made another 15bhp and held boost better

Point been a WELL designed intake can free a lot of power up, big air filter sucking in hot air are not as great as you would thing or even having one with some fresh air hitting it

Air does not travel as you always think and changes when compressed

If you have aerodinamic knowleges and machines for testing,go ahead and design more efficient/performant intakes.

As from the traveling air, that is what I learned in college, maybe school is wrong :cocktail:

Piper x cross are ****e simple!

If you want the noise only drill the cold side of the box, the 3" air feed down to the bumper grill is plenty big enough. I noticed an improvement over the CAI but everyone's different.
