MAF intermittent no communication

Featured Replies

I had the car serviced today, and they found this intermittent fault code. They are didn't record the code number, and just the description. It might explain why it sometimes feels a bit flat at high revs. They think the code was P0100 but no guarantee this is correct!

I guess the answer is to change the maf sensor which sounds not t cheap.....

I would leave it a bit and see if you can get a code for certain.

Change it yourself in five minutes flat. They are about 75 at eurocarparts with the forum discount. brisk25

The OEM is a Bosch part and is an exchange part. If you buy OEM from VAG make sure they give you the exchange part - about a third the price of new.

Whether new or "exchange" you still get a new part (they only want the old one back for the platinum inside).

The usual test for a bad MAF is to unplug it and see how the car runs. If it runs better or the same, the MAF is on the way out.

as in drive it around normally?

I spoke with Mikko (I think) at Shark this afternoon who explained if it doesn't send a signal, then the default is reduced air flow, so the engine would run lean. Up until around 4.5k ish the engine is run from the lambda sensor, not the MAF. He also suggested that it could be a wiring fault which would explain why the problem is intermittent, in that sometimes it pulls strongly to the red line, sometimes it doesn't.

Already arranged to do this in a couple of days or so.
