Feeler: Group Buy Turborevs Uprated SMIC

Featured Replies

I have been in contact with Turborevs regarding their bigger more shiny side mount intercooler, and I thought some other people might like to get there hands on one as well. It has had some good reviews over on another VAG forum and I've seen people speak well of it on Briskoda too.

Anyway, I just wondered what sort of interest this might generate if any, If we can get 10 people they will offer the smic for £94 delivered (within the uk), the normal selling price is £105.99 so a £11.99 saving.

Have a look at item number 130579896696 on ebay for a better idea of what you would be getting, it's quite a bit bigger than the standard unit.

If there is enough intersest I'll get a group buy up and running.

This would not be an offical BRISKODA organised group buy and therefore BRISKODA CANNOT be held in anyway responsible for any wrong doing that may occur.

what pipes would you need, and what might the brackets look like

Hi,

On a Mk1 Octavia/golf etc it would fit in exactly the same location just like the OEM SMIC its a like for like replacement, although if you have a TDI it's a bit different, have a look on ebay at the item number I mentioned above, it covers these things.

If your considering it for another car let me know exact info and I can ask them if it will fit.

Cheers

tdi fabia vrs mk1

I got a reply from Jav, he's not sure as they have never tried it on this car, but says if it is the same as the golf and a3 tdi, you'd need 2 x 57mm silicon hoses, and to adapt the bracket slightly (as it doesn't line up with the original ones).

Maybe someone else on these forums would know if the fabia has the same stock intercooler fitted as the golf/a3.

Cheers.

I'd love to see some RR data on these to see if they actually make any difference whatsoever. I heard someone had a supposedly uprated SMIC that performed worse then the OEM one.

I'd be curious for one as well at the right price ;)

that doesnt sound good. Surely a thicker core would aid cooling , perhaps its just creating more lag?

There are varying results. A build thread on golfmkiv's indicates that the turborevs one is pretty awesome (on a bora)... And some people commented that with an arch mod it would probably hack a stage 2 but obviously driven hard it would eventually heat soak.

I've to do a full inspection of pipes and intercooler anyway so I reckon if it's looking ropey it'll be ditched for a turborevs one with new pipework.

Before deciding this was the route for me, I read a lot of the threads on golfmkiv's and other forums. From what information I gained, it's a very good option for someone that doesn't want too have to go the full FMIC route, if you get an FMIC it makes more sense to cut as much space in front of the bumper as possible to get extra air flow, I just wanted a simple solution that would give me a bit better performance on a warmer day. The figures on golfmkiv's threads showed them to perform very well, it's bigger than the OEM and it's bigger than the Forge SMIC, I know more about computers than I do cars, bigger heat sink surely means less heat, and at £94 delivered you can't go wrong, it won't break the bank!

Exactly. If I lose out on the secondhand one I'll be in for one of these. :)

i will probably want one of these

i will probably want one of these

+1

Possibly want one but I guess will depends on finances at the time - if its in like a month or two could well be up for it

Yh really interested

when are you thinking? i want to get mine fitted before the end of july

Edited by eggessford

also i think they could be pressed on the price a bit more, bear in mind they will be charged around £8 by ebay for each one they sell, so they're only knocking off £4 each. they dont seem to sell many so they might go for it

The price he is offering us is exactly the same as the guys at golfmkiv's forum paid for there group buy. They had to get 20 people interested back then, we only need 10 which is pretty fair I think. Its already a fairly good price at £105.99, so £94 is a really good price when it includes your postage too. (Its just over 12% discount from their listing on ebay)

I'll try to setup the group buy as quick as possible, I have messaged a couple admins but had no response yet giving me permission to post the group buy. This would be my first posting of a group buy, how long do people usually post they for? I'll ask Jav at Turborevs what he is like for stock of the SMIC's and if he has any particular wants for how long we run it etc.

Cheers

I'd be interested in one too.

also, sorry to hijack but im going to run a group buy for silicone tip and intercooler pipes, anyone thinking of upgrading their smic check out in the group buy section!

Good call - if i'm doing an uprated SMIC I may as well go the whole hog.

id be interested, probably in two. depends when your planning on ordering.

Count me out, got the one in the ads section!
