@ sk4gw, i'm sure this is what your after so ill oblige. why is it that anything posted in here is always dealt with negativity by yourself? this car is far from perfect, its a cheap hot hatch wannabe

  • Troll lol :peek:

  • sk4gw, thanks for that. Shall i put you on the list ;-)

Why post?

Because its an open forum.

Why be negative?

Because on this subject and this modification for this car i had an 'opinion' that appears to you as 'negative'.

Is this a 'yes man only post forum',

It appears to be, where you must only post what someone else thinks you should post.

Chassis & the year 2012.

Yes there are still vehicles with a chassis, Ladder or not,

Land Rover Defender, Suzuki Jimny's, Then there are 'Uni-Body' Vehicles like Discoveries and Range Rover Sports, etc etc.

Roll cages, i have one with an External & one with a internal and external.

Yes for protection.

You play off added weight and raised centre of gravity against the need to protect and that the raised COG may increase the need to have a cage.

Seam weld and strengthen as you heart desires and Build in rigidity.

Horses for courses obviously.

Add weight and increase power to cope with more weight, and need to add weight to protect more as you have more power.

Increase braking to cope with increased weight and power.

Car Modding is fun, and yes we do all love doing it, even me..

Cheers George. Please post more often lol

I am not sure I have understood your point george. Is it that you think that roads conditions + car's suspension are good enough to minimise flex and bodyroll? Because that is subjective (ie. how much bodyroll one considers minimal) and I can accept it.

But the other thing you are saying about no benefit due to monocoque design (by the way I really doubt it's a 100% monocoque body) doesn't make sense to me. Because even if we assume a part 100% built from one single piece of material that does not change the fact that you can always reduce its deformation under load by adding a rib / stiff beam (don't know the exact english translation for this engineering term) in the direction or plane that the load is acting, this is a fundamental of structural design. The question is not if it will be beneficious, but how much are you prepared to sacrifice on 1) added weight 2) cost 3) complexity of your entire mechanism. In the case of a car, there is a 4th one, how much will practicality and comfort be affected by this.

So, before we let this thread go off on a massive tangent, shall we stop this here.

sk4gw doesnt want one. NO one else is being forced to have one.

Ive posted up an independent review of a bit of kit i quite like the look of and think it might be beneficial for how i use my car. There are plenty of guys on here, who like me want to improve the handling of their car, and enjoy the process of modifications.

So i have decided to go out of my own way to approach some people i know, to see if they would be interested in developing it.

I will be paying the same price as everyone else in the group buy. Materials aren't free at the end of the day and neither is the mechanics time.

Troll lol :peek:

I don't see anything wrong with George's post as he is just expressing an opinion and that gives a fair and balanced view which could influence a persons decision to say they want one or not. He wasn't going off on a massive tangent talking about chassis strength etc. I suppose these are like strut braces, some people love them, others think they are not neccessary...pays ur money etc

One more question - I already got a sway bar, does that mean that the UB is unecessary?

We have a vendor. He has a linkto the thread. Any more takers?

Nice one, I'd like to ask that too. Since I also got the arb on the rear, I may skip the UB If I consider the given price expensive.

I suggest you get an internal roll cage in there and provide rigidity & safety to the vehilce if you actually drive that hard.

Then buy a full face helmet, overalls, and gloves, pop down to the shops quickly and look like a complete **** !

Or leave your back seats up,

and sit in the back while somebody drives hard and see if you get your finger nipped in any gap.

They work in different ways. the brace will add extra rigidity to the shell. the ARB reduces body roll. they should enhance each other.

FWIW the guy in that original review had the following fitted prior to the the braces.

KW V3 Coilovers - corner weighted and setup by VWR

Quaife LSD

Front and rear ARBs

Lower and side engine mounts

front and rear ARBs(swaybars)

Brembo BBK

Poly bushes

whiteline anti lift kit

and about 280hp/300lbft

It was already a very very sorted car to drive. He felt those benefits stated in the OP with all those mods on what is already a very stiff shell with many modifications.

you forgot to mention the front and rear ARBs ;)

Sy has said front and rear ARBs (swaybars)

The brace behind the seats looks quite good. It has continuous material where it needs it and cutouts where it doesn't. The underbody one however lacks any clear load-path and could be improved on greatly in terms of stiffness/weight.

  • 3 weeks later...

Is the project still a go?

Is the project still a go?

Yep, were still going, although its still in the design stage. All the measurements have been taken, i think its in the process of being drawn up on autocad before the prototype is test fitted to my car. This is only the internal lateral boot brace at the moment. I dont think he has looked into the underbody brace yet, or if its possible. i'll ask him.

Thank you mate :) hope all goes well

I have a question may be stupid but does the internal lateral boot brace mean that you have to have the seats down while its fitted ?

  • Author

Nope. Seats upjust like normal

Cheers for the information.

Add me to the list
