Tailgate rust issue

Featured Replies

Bumping an old thread rather than starting a new one.

My 2004 estate has had some bubbling paintwork around the number plate trim, and just below the bottom right of the glasswork. Both common areas I see.

With the end of the corrosion warranty looming i emailed Skoda Customer Services some pics, and after a few weeks they replied saying they wouldnt consider a claim becuase the paint had delaminated due to stone chips and scratches.....yeah right.

I wasn't happy with this outcome so i contacted an approved Skoda body shop ( Shorade, Cannock ) and spoke to one of the estimators.

He stated it obvioulsy wasn't caused by stone chips or scratches. Apparently the common area of rust near the glass is a KNOWN SKODA PROBLEM caused by the fact the rear glass is installed incorrectly during manufacture. Looking more closely that side of the glass has slipped down about 1mm compared to the other side causing a rub against the metal panel. Spacing blocks should have been fitted after installation to stop the glass slipping down.

They rear glass panel has never been replaced during my ownership, and looked original to both the estimator and I. He also checked the paint depth which was normal.

I know the car is nearly ten years old, but a warranty is a warranty after all.

I've emailed my finding back to skoda, and i'm waiting with baited breath.

Push to get it done as soon as possible. Warranty is 10 years. Mine has just started to show similar signs and is just out of warranty!

Must give my 04 Octy a good end to end at the weekend... first registration date is June...
