I'm not going to make any decisions based on the outcome of the poll, just a bit of fun !

I agree with Ste J - I'd mod it to the extent that it's reversible (or atleast easily replaceable) so that it's not permanently afflicted!

Why not? Its your car if your happy to do it then do it. Yes its an se but its still a fabia at the end of the day not like its going to be a future classic or anything. But like said i have always modded my cars to the point it can be put back to standard, but nearly anything can be returned to standard just how much money are you willing to pay is the thing.

I'd leave it alone if it was mine and completely boggo.

Get it lowered on polished wheels. Nom.

I never (well seldom) modify cars so my "No" answer must be seen in that context. I suspect little you do to a car adds value, at least not the amount it costs to do, and some things can detract from its value and resale potential. However the market value of SEs appears to be gradually collapsing.

That said my first vRS was retrimmed with a leather interior - but before delivery. That was purely because I wouldn't have bought it with the awful standard seats and the dealer arranged it (at a cost of £1400). Six years down the line I doubt if any "added value" remained but it still looked good.

It complicates getting insurance quotes too - on price comparison site even some insurers won't quote after I declare "parking sensors" on my present car, its only modification.

My bike was bought secondhand with several mods (hugger, rack, scott-oiler, radiator guard) and that's a hassle to insure too.

I've changed the rear view mirrors on the Atom... :giggle:

I don't think any modifications add value in the wider market, but leather in a vrs (fab or octy)will make it more appealing to most people.... I agree the standard seats in both cars are terrible.

Yep, you should give it a respray, Se's in blue are common round these parts :)

I had my first "wave" when after nearly two years of ownership I saw another passing in Oswestry recently.

Quality, PMSL

what about a satin black wrap!

I had my first "wave" when after nearly two years of ownership I saw another passing in Oswestry recently.

Was that me? I remember waving at someone in a skoda the other weekend

Quite possibly - I was approaching the recycling depot (probably three weekends ago?) and suddenly saw another blue vRS coming away from there - the first time I've seen one while driving along. You or whoever it was had the initiative to wave and I belatedly managed a notional one in dumbstruck response.

Prior to that in the two years I've had mine I've only seen one twice while out walking - and one of those was also in Oswestry a while ago. The other seven my dealer reckons he sold must largely have left the area.

Returning to topic I see it's surprisingly few going like me for the "No" option. Even combining that with the middle option it's not quite a third. It would have been interesting to know how the SE owners have voted - potentially a higher percentage.

As to whether it's worth more of course then that's debatable. It was certainly a beneficial package when new, but then it was also a run-out model which might have been substantially reduced in any case. The lack of a vRS in the Mark 2 range at the time probably mitigated than possibility though. Now they're five years old the benefits of buying an SE over a well-specced ordinary car are less certain especially the higher mileage examples. The dealer when he sold it to me suggested it would be worth £7k in mid 2013 (and I didn't take him seriously) - perhaps I should have got that in writing!

However should anyone want to offer a decent price for my 35k near-pristine example then get in touch!

At the end of the day its still just a blue Skoda, Theres nothing rare about them, 1000 cars is hardly a limited run in the space of a year. My mother has the SE used for the interior shots in the brochure and she asked me to change the rear wiper to the polo one, and to put a splitter on it as she liked the way my car looked. I didn't even hesitate to order the parts. I think that although the Fabia is an alright looking car as standard they just need a few tweaks to make them look right. I'm desperately trying to convince her to let me lower it 30mm just to make it look normal, the standard ride height is just ridiculous!!! Her alloys are starting to corrode and she asked me if i could speak to my powdercoater about getting them done in anthracite.

If you want to modify it then go for it! I know that modified cars have a bad image (boyracers, chavs etc...) but in my opinion, people who think this is true are extremely shallow minded! Just because you want to make your car personal to your taste and to match your personality doesn't make you drive like a tool!!

I'd be inclined to say do what makes you happy. Its a special edition all well and good. BUT, i've already modded 2 or else 3 very rare cars previously - and went on to enjoy them all the same as I put my personality into them.

Well said :-) I have to agree. I customise my car as I am an enthusiast and the way I see it is that anyone can buy thesame car as you and not appreciate it which to me isn't right. You've got to make your car special to yourself.

Back on topic the se had a nice spec, but was just an end of life special. Now if it wasn't made in such high numbers I would say keep it standard and cherish it.

I've modded mine a fair bit and wouldnt change it. :)
