Maxidot retrofit

Featured Replies

Skoda UK have told me it can't be done by a dealer and not to attempt to get someone else to do it as it will void warranty, and Shark say they used to do it but they don't offer it anymore.

Is it really that much of an issue to do??

I've seen other posts saying it can be done...

My dealer did mine, they weren't too keen but they did it

Ben would have done it, but wasn't able to get around the security issues

Any dealer can do it, they just need to be persuaded. Using their diagnostics tool they simply follow the guided step by step process of swapping an instrument cluster under warranty. The replacement cluster must be brand new and unused for them to do this though.

This guy reckoned he'd spoken to some of the tech guys at HQ who were adamant it couldn't be done by the dealer as it in boobed lots of complicated wiring changes etc etc blah blah and so on...!

He said that it would void the warranty because it takes the vehicle away from the original 'factory specification' and if any complications arose that could be traced back to being as a result of the retrofit then you wouldn't be covered...

Thats what I thought. It seemed a rather odd thing for the Skoda UK man to say.

Any squeaks or rattles from the dash since having it done?

This is an old chestnut. I reported here sometime ago that SUK advice is not to retrofit maxidot (if car is still under warranty). The problem for the dealer is that if anything goes wrong which can be directly or indirectly linked to retrofit then SUK will not compensate dealer for subsequent work to put matter right . Dealer & SUK told me this. Presumably after warranty expires dealer is on his own anyway. I think this is a stupid attitude for SUK to take for what is a relatively simple retrofit. Hats off to Hobins!
