Pics from Autometrix track day @ Croft

Featured Replies

What a good day it was! Fantastic weather (got bloody sunburnt again!) & some good track action.

Nice to meet up with AndyVRS & have a chat.

The vRS did me proud & held it's own against a yellow Audi S4. He pulled away from me on the straights, but I caught him & couldn't lose me at the back end of the circuit.

Would have liked to done a few more sessions but a) didn't have the money & B) wasn't set up for some proper fun (tyres, brakes & suspension).

Anyway, here's some pics:-

Casulty of the day was this Mk2 Golf. :(

There was a couple more spinners later on in the day.

Awesome GTI's TT had a brief spin coming out of the chicane & Project Golf from Volkswagen Driver mag had a major off @ Clervaux & lost a wheel!

Hopefully you put up a good show, and showed some of the dedicated track cars up a bit.

Morning Jon. Sorry i went off without saying ta ta - but struggled to find you and had to get back pretty sharpish. But was a fantastic day although my tyres now need replacing lol. Can't quite believe how fast they went on me leaving me with 4 marshmallows and a screeching sound track. I also have some pics that i will try and host tomorrow and some vid clips if anyone can host !?!?

As for racing stuff, i could keep with a 1.8T golf (standard i asume) and MILTEKs Audi A3 TDI was not difficult to stay with but i was no where near on the bends and thus got lapped - by everything. But i loved it and would recomend ;)

Hi Andy, I knew you had to get back home, so don't worry!

Met up with a mate later on in the day & spent most of the time chatting to him near Clervaux corner (first corner after the pit straight).

As we discussed after our first session, you need an extra set of road legal track tyres & a good suspension set up to have full day of track driving. :D

Had some fun never-the-less.

Looking forward to the Briskoda Track day @ Croft!! ;)

Glad you guys had a good day!

Standard road tyres will start to die after 10 mins on track, by that I mean they will heat up so much that your remoulding them and the grip is potentially disappearing.

However and I know this sounds bit la de la, I've found the Pirelli P-Zeros to withstand a track day and then go onto do more days + 10k road miles, sure the edges of the blocks look a little rounded and the words on the side disappear, but the primary depth of tread block is actually ok. I've seen a set of "softer" toyo's be destroyed in a day for about the same amount of driving time.

I do have a set of spare wheels and p-zero corsa's on them (well no tread now :D ), now these totally rock over the road tyres, again they heat up but with large tread blocks it matters far less and of course you get great turn in and grip...to a point.

Road tyres will break away gradually, the more grip i.e. closer to slick, the more violent and sudden the loss of grip is...horses and donkeys.

Tyres are the single factor that will improve or ruin your day and for that matter make you quick roudn the corners, suspension or not.

Still you have sampled the Fabia on track and it's a dam good feeling I bet :D Croft is really well suited to the torque of the fabia. Not driven there myself so I'm just repeating that bit :) but Anglesey is similar.

We will be visiting Croft, Bruntingthorpe and other venues this year so pop some good boots on and enjoy :D
