Car hit from behind in Car Park!

Featured Replies

Parked car to go shopping today and when I return, some idiot has parked behind me and hit my bumper and dented it slightly plus a couple of scrapes above the dent. Why can't people be more careful, he or she had the whole bloody car park which was practically empty and they park behind me. It's my pride and joy and I look after it and then this happens. I'm p...ed off with these people who have no respect for other peoples property!

Did they give you their details?

I have dent appeared in my drivers rear door, it wasnt there last week,

Really not happy as ive just about got bodywork to sorted

No, they didn't, that would mean being honest.

i parked in tesco car park last week i always single park no one in front or behind get back to car i have 3 dents in rear drivers passenger door plus scratches looks like a runaway trolley was the culprit.

phoned dent the doctor £60 door looks good as new till the next time very clever people.

bill

Yeah, I never used to care where I parked but since getting the Octavia, I tend to park near the park of the car park and walk to the entrance. Just can't trust people's parking skills or honesty.

I noticed a door ding in my front passenger door when detailing last Sunday, bloody annoying :wall:

^ Agreed guys, supermarket car parks are amongst the worst offenders in this respect! I"ll never forget many years back I was out with my dad in his 120 and we parked in a medium sized car park with only one other car in it. You're probably ahead of me but as we returned yes the other car reversed up and hit the dear old Skoda. Takes a whole new definition of poor driving & lack of spacial awareness to do that

I always try to park away from the hoards in car parks but come back and they've swarmed round me, FOOLS!

People can't park in car parks, yet they teach people how to parallel park but not how to park in a car park. I cannot remember for the life of me the last time I did a parallel park.

Try a warm but not hot enough to damage paint hair drier, as sometimes this can cause dents to be less prominent.

Regarding the scratching, if it's not made it through the paint, then some scratch X 2.0 or similar works wonders, as does a crayola wax crayon in the correct colour :)

When this sort of thing happens, I tend to imagine all sorts of painful ways for people to meet their demise. If I'm there when it happens, I come over all Basil Fawlty and start ranting at then in an overly sarcastic manner until they run away or say sorry. It's amazing how many times it has happened and I'm surprised at their lack of concern or even awareness that they've done anything.

I hope none of you ever go to France, because if you do you'll be having kittens.

The only way the French know to park is by contact!!

Indeed, witnessed it myself and very commonly used for parallel parking in Paris. If a space is to small for your car, you are allowed to use the bumpers of your own car to nudge the other vehicles to make the space big enough. However expect to be nudged back in return when the other vehicles come to leave.

As said previous and got mullered in supermarket car park and only there at the further most spaces ! Take 2 bays and back up to a space

some people need their head seen to. im the same, i park way at the back of the carpark, come back and someones parked right beside me yet the next 30 spaces in all directions are free, they're like bloody sheep. If i have to pick a space in a crammed carpark though i usually go for one beside a nice motor. Stay clear of people carriers or cars with prams, or micras with disabled stickers..... all this = dented doors

People are sheep, but isn't there some logic in the safety in numbers thing? I know car park dings are a pain in the :swear: , mine has more than I'm happy with, but IMO parking at the other end of the car park that's completely empty from the other end makes me feel like I'm advertising the fact I either have something worth stealing or protecting.

:bandit:

Well a big congratulations to the Sainsbury's at Pepper hill in Gravesend ( worth the 10mile round trip) who have just doubled the size of there car park, and have made the parking slots alot bigger with hatchett lines between each space.

The one reason we keep the mk1 Oct'y is for the supermarket run and in town parking.

Well, got a quote today from Skoda to have the dent sorted and it's going to cost £286 which includes a couple of stone chips I have asked them to do, so quite happy with that. So, car being picked up tomorrow and should have it back by the weekend. I shall just make sure in future to keep well away from idiot drivers who can't park!

Steer clear of Hempsted Valley then, you're quite literally mirror to mirror there

Not quite true.

The bay park is part of the UK test so should be taught in case that is the exercise they are asked to do on the test.

In reality not all test centres have a suitable carpark so it isn't asked for.

its frowned upon but sometimes the only way to guarantee no dings lol

Never knew it was part of the test - my test centre didn't have a suitable car park so perhaps that's why I didn't do it?

Never knew this either, just assumed it was a standard part of the test. Bathgate test centres reverse bays are uphill, can be quite amusing watching people who haven't fully mastered the clutch yet try up there.

if you did that here, you'll most likely get your car keyed instead or find the extra space used as supermarket trolley park.

You'd get a parking fine, your car attacked and a few trolleys in the side down this way too.

If everybody is worried about this (and it is an issue) then it would make more sense to petition the government/MP's to increase the minimum size of a parking bay. Cars have got wider but bays have not kept up.

So if you made the minimum size of a bay the width of an average car, plus an open drivers door, that would be a good size.

They could also spin it to play green tricks saying they are reducing the number of spaces.
