Changing Brake Fluid

Featured Replies

I recently changed the brake fluid in my Yeti 2.0 ltr 4x4. Straight forward enough if you've done fluid changes before, except when coming to do the rear's I found I could'nt get at the bleed nipple, and had to remove the wheel to do so. The nipple is located on the top of the piston housing, facing vertically to the centre of the wheel arch, and with various bits of suspension etc around it, I found taking the wheel off the easiest way to go. I had the vehicle up on four stands in the garage, if I had a pit I could probably have done it without wheel off. Thought I'd mention it in case anyone else does it.

I've yet to get all four wheels off at the same time, to get the yeti on four stands you need to have used five different jacking points. Where did you place the jack and what type did you use? OEM, or trolley? I assume you used axle stands (and wooden blocks?)

No I've got 4 drive on home made ramps which are only 4" high, but give sufficient room to get under to do oil plug removal etc. With them only being that high I was able to use my hydraulic jack without having to move the vehicle off the ramps. I made them that size as I use them on the wife's Ibiza ( old one and new ) and when I had an Altea. For anything more serious I use axle stands.

Forgot to mention, when I changed my wheels around a few months ago, when using the front or rear marked jacking points, the two wheels ( same side of course )lifted, I didn't do the job like this, but put a scissor jack under the other point. So it was a doddle to swap the wheels.
