A Rattle!

Featured Replies

I have a vibration rattle from about 1500-1800rpm. No idea what it is, but I hear it all the time. The car spends most of its operational life in that rev range.

It is fine below and above. Annoying if you drive at 60mph on the motorway.

Honest officer. I was only driving at 80mph so the car didn't rattle

They sell McLarens now!

My Yeti is pretty rattle free although its only done 2.7K miles, there are one or two small creeks (not rattles) as the inside warms up from cold but pretty good when warm. My old 02 plate Mondeo Zetec estate TDCi was probably the quietest car I owned (Yeti is very close 2nd), in 10 years and 100K miles that didn't rattle at all, even after I had the dash out to replace the instrument bulbs. It did complain when the rear wheel bearings were giving up at 95K though. It only went because of a big MOT bill that would have cost more than the car was worth and I could not justify running 2 cars at the time. Biggest annual bill was less than £300 including services but excluding tyres.

The only rattle I've had in mine (touching wood!), I found eventually, was from my spare glasses in the overhead spectacle storage compartment! Put them in a soft bag, problem solved.

What do you mean by hear brakes?

If I leave mine for more than a day now they sound rough for the first couple of applications. To be expected as they start corroding in the damp air as soon as they cool down. Nothing you can do about it.

I just had my Yeti serviced and MOTd last week. They pointed out to me that the brakes needed cleaning, they were pretty noisy.

I'd had this rough brake sound when cold. It never really went away just got less rough when all warmed up. I thought it was normal, it hadn't affected the stopping performance at all.

The dealer cleaned all the brake parts - took about an hour and the sound has gone. How long it'll last - who knows and I'm not sure it would have led to any problem though I suppose if it's very clogged it can't be that good. Anyway, it's a much better car to drive for it and worth the expense.

Now, two years later I can inform all of you that I have solved all my rattle, creaky and grinding frustrations.

Not due to my dealer, since he was of no use, but due to multimedia performance of my yeti.

When music is loud I hear no rattle.
