"Black Magic" paint - warranty claims?

Featured Replies

As you might have read on other threads my Fabia vRS - only 6 months/6,000 miles old - is now covered with a myriad of scratches. Virtually everywhere is affected. These scratches appear white because they're completely through the black paint layer.

I'm sure this isn't right and am going to pursue getting a complete respray as a warranty claim owing to one or more of the following:

a) the black paint being too thin

B) the black paint being too soft

c) the clear sealer coat being too thin

d) the clear sealer coat being too soft

Has anyone else got a car similarly affected? - mine's a very early facelift edition built around September 2004.

Has anyone else either made a warranty claim - either successful or unsuccessful - or is considering one?

Does anyone know how I could get a specialist to give a report on the condition of the paintwork to back up my claim?

they will say stop washing your car with gravel i think

Only got one small scratch on my 2001 car and that was down to me. Rest of the paintwork seems to be in remarkably good condition, cosidering the car has a hard life, is only cleaned every few months and is fast approaching 80k miles! :D

Chris

mines doing well its gong through to the white paint on the drivers door in 4 small stone chips rest seems fine

you might find its not through the paint even though its looks like it is. I recently scraped the whole side through a bush on a country lane, it looked absolutely awful with thick white lines right down the side (dark metalic blue). The local body shop polished it all out for a mere

My octy vRS is covered in small scratches caused by washing.

I'd try a local body shop first, at least for an estimate (cash obviously!). All those paint restorers are quite harsh.

Never used t-cut yet that has worked, crap IMHO. I too have a 2004sept 54 plate and scratches seem to appear on mine daily, its starting to pi$$ me off somewhat AND I am as careful as anyone can be with mine.

Try something from the meguiars range i.e speed glaze. This removes swirls and scratches from the paint. It can be applied by hand or by a random orbital buffer. I recently brought a Porter Cable buffer from america. Its a fantastic bit of kit and cuts down the polishing/waxing time and will remove most minor defects. General rule is if you can feel the scratch with your finger nail then it needs painting if not then you should be able to polish it out.

Check out this web to see what the Porter Cable can do.

meguiars from www.meguiars.co.uk or www.seriousperformance.co.uk.

Pop into a local bodyshop - preferably one with a good reputation and get their advice. It might need nothing more than a machine polish and mop but if it's a paint / lacquar defect they should be experienced enough to make a judgement.

The paint on the edge of my door (driver) started to chip, and cracks stated building around it. Took it to my dealer, showed it to him, had the door completely resprayed under warranty, and the whole car polished too :)
