Orange engine light

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just on my way home from work when the orange engine warning light popped up! It's now on all the time, I have read the handbook and it suggests possibly emissions issue ? I had it booked in tomorrow at an idie for service and mot anyway, any ideas to what I can expect the light coming on for? I'm hoping it's just a sensor that's gone tits up!

Darren

Could be a number of things mate not much point in speculating until the fault code has been read.

i had this turned out to be a fuse :giggle: :giggle: :wall: :wall:

Hi m8, the scanner you need is the U281. The U480 works with nearly all cars except VAG. Hope u get it sorted. Mark

Shortly after I bought my vRS this came on for a couple of days, went off for a few more, came back on again, and then went off forever (well 4 months and counting). May turn out to be nothing!

Mine came on because of a purge valve issue, turned out the previous owner had be brimming the tank past the first click off of the fuel pump so instead of the charcoal canister being full of fumes it was full of bloody fuel.

Do you fill the tank right to the top??

Really? Worked fine on a 56 plate caddy, 2006 BMW 5 series my current Octavia and a neighbours 61 plate Fabia

I also have the Autel MS509 and MS609 and the Launch Diagun, currently waiting on my launch Creader6 arriving and looking into an Autel maxidas too.

In case anyone locally needs a light switched off for free.

When I blocked the EGR valve the engine came on ofter a few miles, no error shown on maxidot.

With vagcom I found out that it was dew to low EGR circulation air. Used the car for a few days like this, noticed nothing. For one or 2 time the light didn´t lit up on start up, bit did after a few miles

Ah well if we are all gonna play the guessing game and the car drives ok my money is on the fuel pressure sensor or the charcoal canister lol

Not at today's prices! Stick in just over half most times, doesn't feel quite as bad on the pocket.

Sat in the garage now waiting for the verdict.......................

And the award of most accurate diag without seeing the car goes to................07 vRS Taxi

It was the charcoal canister, they have reset the warning light and advised to monitor as its an item they say rarely fails, any thoughts?

Ive had one of those aswell mate £90 for the canister and very easy to fit, you could try taking the top breather valve off and giving it abit of a hoovering then erase the fault code it usually keeps the light off for a while but it does always return until the part is changed.

I've got a 57 petrol VRS and I had this problem after filling up with fuel. I read the codes using the Shark STS unit and it turns out I didn't have the petrol cap sealed properly. I tightened the cap, reset the codes, and haven't had a problem since.

That was my wishfull thinking at first but the code came back, the longest it has stayed away is about 6 weeks!

Thanks for the vote of confidence! It's been 6 months now so I certainly hope that's the end of it!

Ok, light reset on wednesday, ordered u281 reader to help read codes, light came back on today after 50 ish miles, plugged reader in and came back with linking error! Just my look........possibly not compatible?

So, where do I find the canister? Is it easy to change as the garage wants £120 to replace and any ideas on the reader?

Any help will be mostly appreciated as its just starting to aggravate me.

i have a 2008, octavia estate 4x4 6 speed, ex plod, recently the  flashing coil light and engine light have been comming on regular, my fault code reader shows no fault code.

recently regenerated the emission system replaced the exhaust sensor, , and it still goes into snail mode regularly, and sometimes it seems to miss, cough and pick up again

its done 203000 miles, recent service all filters oils ( including cabin filter which looked like not been changed since 2008)

starting to do my head in, any ideas

Get a better code reader on it, if a warning light has been up there should be a code.

Failing that need to check exhaust temp sensors in live data to see if they are all reading as they should etc. Highly likely as that mileage though if still on it's original DPF it might well be dead.
