Hate to ask this; Induction Kits

Featured Replies

One of my most hated things if im completely honest with you but just wanting to know do i now need one?

Car is running a stage 2, 230bhp..is an uprated air filter needed do you think?

Not to mention its a diesel, i dont think ive ever come across a diesel with an induction kit on so i wouldt even know where to source one from.

ATM the car is demonstrating some strange and really quite annoying behavior, go to accelerate, any more then half throttle i.e over taking and depending on what boost ect is available at the time the car will lurch forward then has the feeling of like the fuel has been cut off? A sensor over loading with a new demands of the map maybe?

Either way its off to get some logging done though.

I know with some older cars if you tuned them up to a point and accelerated too fast all the fuel got shoved to the back of the tank so none was being sucked up for a second so you'd fit a swirl pot to remove this issue

I believe some have used them on the PD vRS with good results. What else did yoh have to do for stage 2 in addition to the map?

Most suck in hot air from under the bonnet , a panel filter in the stock airbox is worthwhile though

you will get increased dv noise

As others say, most "induction kits" increase induction and recirc valve noise, and possibly induction temperature. I'd fit a panel (I prefer filter foam which has been used as mass market OEM to cotton gauze) to the stock airbox.

As to the surging, I'm wondering if you're getting transient over-boost? Data-logging is the only way to (dis)prove that though!

DPF delete, my car is living proof that no big intercoolers, uprated clucth or flywheels are needed.

Im getting the EGR turned off asap. Just wondered if its sucking in more air through an OEM filter then this must be suffocating it to some degree, i dont know what the OEM is designed to fit else other then the vRS.

Just sounds more like a tractor, not good! Don't waste your money....

K&N direct panel replacement filter and apparently will last 50k before cleaning (ill just replace it after 30k or so) at only £35, no extra noise and allows easier flow, think ill go for that at service time.

I'm sure some of the MK II octavia's in a higher state of tune suffered with what I can best describe as fuel starvation. IIRC something to do with the fuel pump not being able to deliver enough, VrsCarl and Makefish if i remember rightly and they looked to replace with a HPFP (High Pressure Fuel Pump)

I might of course be talking out of my @R5e

I fitted a induction kit to my mapped 2012 cr vrs and removed it after a month or so as it didnt seem to make any improvements apart from noise. Refitted with a K+N replacement and it seems to be as good. Looked well though!

I tried a K&N induction kit on my old CR. Left it on about 15mins. The noise it made during normal driving was awful. I could only describe it by saying it was like the sound of the ocean coming over my bonnet. At speed it made a nice whooshing sound though. As for any performance gain I couldn't really say. Bahnstormer vRS saw decent gain on his you could PM him as i think he frequents the Yeti section mostly now.

I have K&N panel filters in both my PD Octy VRS and Superb 170 CR they make a noticeable difference to midrange and economy, I clean them every 10,000 miles.

They have a million mile warranty and certainly dont need changing every 50k

You can hear turbo spool a bit more but the noise is about the same as a brand new oem filter

I'd love to know how you hear the DV noise though ;)

I have used panel filters in my tsi, cr and tfsi vRS's and can honestly say I didn't notice a difference.

Waste of time on a diesel - and marginal gains on a petrol.

Standard air box is a reasonable flow capacity

Diesel doesnt pump enough air / rev high enough to benefit from intake or exhaust.

I know the exhaust is big enough just thinking on the level if the paper element filter giving abit of restriction. Id never consider fitting an after market filter on any other car but with it kicking out an extra 60bhp theres evidently more air going in.

I know some OEM parts have a really high tolerance, i remember my Mk4 Golf 150pd had the front mounted intercooler that was capable of 250bhp+ so if i was to tune anything, the intercooler would be the last thing to upgrade.

The paper elements certainly dont last anywhere near as far as Skoda think , I could tell the difference on both my PD VRS and Superb when the filters get over 10,000 miles on them, the average consumption starts to drop as well

As for not making a difference i dont know , 5 or 10 hp is next to impossible to feel anyhow

I'd love to see your dyno sheet though to compare it to my stocker

Are you selling the induction kit ??????

If you put '57i' into the search bar for this forum you'll get a whole load of threads with info about Induction Kits.

Here though are three that may well be worth a read;-

However, I eventually removed the 57i from my PD TDI vRS to bring back the low/mid range torque I had lost and fitted an ITG foam replacement panel filter into the OEM airbox. I subsequently transferred the ITG filter to my Yeti which reminds me that I must check/clean it this weekend.

You can buy a recharge kit for a k&n filter for under 15quid from ebay. Really easy to use and judging by the amount left after doing 2 cone filters you could do about 8 to 10 of them lol.

Sent from my Galaxy S2 not a Crapple!

So Emma whos map, and post up the graph , sounds to me it the map is at fault

No your dead right but Ems is a diesel so different

Its not yet being on a RR. He has mapped plenty other 170's and non of them suffer any problems

Then if it has not been on rollers your bhp is speculation .If you look in the tuning section I have put a post on garage services and tuning. He wants to sponsor Briskoda .He will be doing A rr day for members. He has the best rollers in the country A separate room temperature controlled not a mickey mouse fan . It is in Halifax. here http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/243781-trl-tuners-and-workshop/#entry2861935

I dont understand why people dont dyno their cars before and after they let a tuner loose of them , any idiot with a laptop can call themselves a tuner nowadays

Both my Octy (Stock apart from K&N) and my Superb (stock ) have both been on the dyno* ,my last daily driver also spent time on the dyno and my Evo LIVES on the dyno :)

*both made a fair bit more than the published 170
