Citgo versus Fabia

Featured Replies

Was prompted to look at the Fabia and compare it to the Citigo having driven a used Fabia manual yesterday. The first time I've driven a manual for some time (both my cars are auto. at present....a Hyundai i10 auto. and a Yeti DSG).

Turns out using the clutch caused my arthritic left hip to give me pain therefore narrowing any future purchase to an auto. Up to now I've had the automatics simply because I fancied auto. but now it looks like there's a practical reason for not having a clutch pedal.

Using Drive the Deal to judge prices........

A manual top spec. Citigo is £10,210

A manual SE Plus Fabia is £10,615 (the Elegance is £10,995)

A basic manual Citigo is £7,980

A basic manual Fabia is £8,879

The automatic versions are as follows.....

Citigo Elegance auto. is £10,415

Fabia SE Plus DSG is £11,156 ( the Elegance is £11,520)

Not a vast difference between the Citigo up against the Fabia.

Lot more car with the Fabia plus you get the excellent 1.2 TSI engine and DSG gearbox with the Fabia.

But the Citigo is cheaper to run and might hold value a bit better and smaller - if that is an advantage for you. But interesting comparison. Admittedly you can get some discount off the Citigo at some places....but not at DtD at present.

I was struck, however, that even with a top of the range, Elegance, Fabia there are loads of extras that could be specified that you might hope would be included in an Elegance spec. car. There are about thirty chargeable options. You don't get cornering fogs, posh halogen headlights, elec rear windows, heated seats, rear parking sensors, sunroof, part leather or sat-nav to name just some of the goodies you don't get without paying extra.

Did you ask & get an answer to when you can order an Automatic Citigo or expect to receive one?

Not yet....but haven't rushed to ask as I've got the impression that the ASG isn't as good as the DSG. The DSG is good and I like it but wouldn't want anything less good. The Honda i shift automated manual that replaced the CVT in the Jazz for a while was not to my liking (or anyone else's, as I gather). Fortunately they've got shot of it now - but the Jazz auto (CVT) is a bit dearer. I do respect Honda though.....as I do Skoda.

The Suzuki Swift SZ4 automatic (£11,537 at DtD......OR £11355 at Broadspeed) looks worth looking at too and has 5 star NCAP. Has Climate Control Air-Con, Cruise Control, Elec. Rear Windows. Keyless entry, Bluetooth phone and streaming,Temporary spare wheel, ESP, Hill Hold Control, Front, side, curtain and knee bags and at 3850mm long is between the Citigo and Fabia in length.

Hold on...! I've just talked myself in to one! :-)

Compare the Swift Automatic with the Splash and you might be pleasantly surprised by the Splash and the Economy, power, Space & Seating,

standard equipment and price. (discounts)

Morning Stan

Like you I am thinking how much it has all changed when buying a car to day, been looking at the citygo, but when on the option you have to put a tick for a spare wheel,to me says it all, still can not make my mind up and your info above is so true, manufactures to day make it so you are moved on to the next spec then again to the next, boy it is not easy, citygo or fabia, have to give more thought.

Hi again Stan

Quick thought,do you have any info on the Fabia 1.6 tdi 75 bhp 2011 car,off to have a look at one soon,I am told good mpg but I think this is the 3 cylinder version??????

TBH, I'd only consider an auto. hence the DSG, hence the 1.2 TSI - especially as I have the 1.2 DSG in the Yeti and have been very impressed in the year that I've had it. The Hyundai is also a 1200cc automatic....but that's where any similarity ends. BUT the Hyundai cost loads less to buy than the Yeti, so a classic case of paying yer money....etc. But when both cars are doing the same miles to the gallon it does make you wonder.....one's a 3500mm baby city car and the other is 4200mm SUV (if that's what it is)...it's pretty impressive on the Yeti's behalf.

Yes, thanks for pointing this out. Broadspeed are £61 dearer than DtD for the Splash Auto. and £182 cheaper than DtD for the Swift Auto.

There are some interesting comparisons between the Swift and the Splash which probably reflect the newer design of the revised Swift (2010). Basically with the Swift for an extra £1547 (if you buy it from BS) you get Halogen Headlights, Elec. Rear Windows, Tilt AND Telescopic steering wheel, Hill Hold Control, Knee Bags, Bluetooth, Cruise Control, Climate Control, Temporary spare wheel (This could be a deal breaker for some). It has discs all round.

The Swift has bigger wheels, is almost the same for mpg, slightly quicker, has lower Co2, a smaller fuel tank, three inches longer, virtually same width, three inches lower. The boot is bigger unfolded but smaller folded.

Food for thought. Be pleased to hear others views [ but we must remember this isn't a Suziki forum :-) ]

Same on the Fabia, spare wheel is extra unless you go for a VRS I believe.

And the Octavia, Yeti, Superb...

It's a 4cyl. The 3cyl diesel Fabia is the 1.2 Greenline II, which is better than the 75bhp Fabia diesel 1.6 as it's faster and more economical despite having a smaller engine. It also comes with a better standard spec as it's a one off model with less options.

If you are going for the 1.6tdi 4cyl engine you really want to be looking at the 90bhp or 105bhp versions as the 75bhp does not make sense IMO with the Greenline in the range. (it was added afterwards)

Greenline II also gets free road tax.

The problem with the 75bhp Diesel Fabia is that it's been detuned well under what it's capable of to fill a gap in the range for an entry level engine. But the engine is capable of so much more, which is why the 1.2 outperforms it in may ways and is cheaper to run.

If I wanted an auto I'd get the Fabia as with the DSG it's a proven smooth box that's a delight to use. Tried and tested in many models.

It won't be posible for the Citygo box to be as good as it's a single, rather than a twin clutch arrangement. So the shift times will be longer.

Been to have a look, think I wil give the deisal a miss,I am advised that the tsi 1.2 is a good engin, not driven so can not say either way,the monte carlow 105 bhp being vat free looks a good price at 11.945 but very long wait, elegance comes out a little less at 11.582 so either of them might be a poss.

The 1.2Tsi is a very good engine. Performs way better than it's capacity would suggest.

You can't get the DSG option on the Monte though. So that's only an option if you want a manual.

The 1.2Tsi and DSG is a great combo with 7 speeds and slick shifts.
