Insurance repairs - can I reject the car?

Featured Replies

Following the cricket-ball sized hail from a few weeks ago my insurance has decided to repair the multiple dents on my wife's car (Seat Leon)

Every panel except the two passenger side doors has been damaged - so badly dented the paint has cracked on some areas. Have been told that the repair guys have decided to pull the dents out instead of replacing the panels.

Bit worried that the repair won't be good enough.

Is it possible to reject the car if I'm not happy with the repair?

this is how it was after the attack of the killer hailstones!

Nope, the decision is not yours. The insurance have decided to repair, the only option you have is to sell on once you get it back if you are not satisfied.

Properly done the car should look like new, how do you think dealers get rid of supermarket dings etc. These dents are pulled out, and the ones you have should be no different all be it more of them.

I rejected an insurance repair many years ago - when the bodyshop delivered it back to me I refused to sign for it or give them the keys to the courtesy car back and rang the insurance company whilst they were still there.

The tailgate was a different colour to the rest of the car, they had blocked the drain holes on the tailgate with paint and interior trim was missing or damaged.

The insurance company sent an assessor out and the car ended up being repaired elsewhere.

If in doubt, stand your ground and don't sign for the car or give them the loaner back.

The poor guy who was dropping mine off was really embarrassed, but whatever you do don't have a go at them and just stay calm and say it is not of acceptable standard.

Wow.

TBH I reckon you won't be able to tell where the repairs are, but if you can then your only recourse will be to send it back and getthemto replace panels instead. You won't get a new car out of it.

In honesty, having had a client who done a lot of repair work for VAG on new cars that had been damaged on the boat, in transit, etc, you might be surprised at how much repair work might have already been done on the car when it left the showroom......

Are you sure? So no matter how bad the standard of repair you have to accept it?

Only asking as I rejected one before with very little hassle once it had been inspected. It isn't your decision how it is repaired, but the standard of the repair has to be acceptable?

I've rejected insurance repairs on a couple of occasions.

On one occasion it was inspected by the VBRA and on the second by the AA & a Dealer. On both occasions the work was redone and loan car supplied.

In both instances they were resolved to my satisfaction.

I think insurance companies try to "get out of it" however if you select your own body shop as against the chain they use. So if selecting one yourself make sure it's one you trust and are happy to deal with

I think what mannyo is saying is if they repair it, you can't then say "I don't accept the repair, now write it off". You can however refuse to have it back until the repair is done "correctly"

That's not true one bit.

You can reject the repairs as much as you want if you're not happy with them.

*EDIT*

Just seen the post above mine, if that's what you mean, then apologies :D

I get it now!

You can only reject the repair if the vehicle has not bee nrepaired to a satifactory standard, looking at the pictures I reckon it will be mostly PDR with a push to paint on the roof if that is where the paint is cracked (push to paint is when the dent guys push all the dent they can to a level so that there is a minimum of filler used in the panel).
