Fools! Name and shame them!

You should be aware that a replacement service book will be stamped 'DUPLICATE' and will have some text stating something along the lines that skoda can't validate the accuracy of the data.

Your insurance company will probably also charge for the replacement certificate and without it you aren't technically insured.

Yes I agree, name and shame, that is absolutly terrible.

There is a Dealer review section on this site. I agree you should name them, but thats where it goes.

Wouldnt hurt to name them on this thread aswell though.

I have a 2 questions: -

Why did you have to take your insurance Document to the dealer & leave it ?

OR

Do you leave all your documents in the car ?

is it parks of hamilton by any chance??

Do you leave all your documents in the car ?

Very bad if you do, SWMBO had very car certificate in the car if anyone had stolen the car then they could have registered it in their name

the certificate was for the courtesy car ...sorry ...bit misleading there but i am fuming just went out to wash the car there and it looks like they have sprayed something on the calipers which has made them lose their glossy appearance took a wheel off and scubbed the caliper but its still not glossy at all ...i am awaiting a call from the service manager of the dealership for his rectification of the matter so will threaten him with negative feedback on briskoda if its not acceptable...going to go to town with him....

A certificate of insurance is issued to show that you comply with the law. Not having one does not mean you are 'technically not insured'.

Anyone can register a car in their name, frightening but true. You do not have to have the insurance certificate to do so.

If I knew your registration number I could write to the DVLA and register it in my name. As you will see on your document, the registered keeper is not necessarily the owner.

It wasn't the ins certifigate she had in her car, it was the v5 log book or whatever its called

If you buy a car on finance the finance company is the owner until all payments are made but the car is registered in your name.

It is stupid I know, but you do not need the V5 to register a car in your name. The DVLA don't even ask questions, they just send a new document in the new name.

Try making a big claim without it.

Sounds like they have used a rather too harsh wheel acid to clean your rims mate im afraid.

You'd be making a claim off your insurance company who are well aware of your cover irrespective of where the bit of paper is that they printed off a while back

So why do they ask to see it?

Ok Fair enough, but if you got a producer I don't think the police will accept a phone call, they will want to see the original, without a certificate of insurance being shown to them you will be liable for prosecution.

Yep - but its not difficult to just phone your insurer and get another copy sent if you have lost the original one. :)

Yes you are right and you would need it to tax your car too but the original comment was that it would be needed to make a claim which was not correct.
