So who fancies a chuckle...

Well the whole story is as follows.

With my Leon 110 TDI SE ready to be put out to pasture, the time had come for a family friendly upgrade.

Looking at estates and Autotrader says that 1 mile from my house there is a Octy vRS estate.

So go along for a look, and a quick rally through the lanes of Wiltshire; oops sorry officer, I mean 'test drive'.

"Hmm" says I "Nice motor, good looking and 170 Bhp to boot... Literally!"

"Nice colour" says my better half.

SOLD!!!

So hatch to estate.

"A bit more noise from the back I thought, is that a normal estate thing?"

"Pardon?" says the wife, "It's a bit noisy back here!"

"I'll look into it!" says I with a sigh of finite patience.

Bring on the BRISKODA research challenge.

"Oh dear it must be the tyre noise - alignment thing. Crap.

Hunter wheel alignment done, no joy. :wall:

Rear Falken/Bridgestone combo swapped to front and double Dunlop combo switched to the back. No joy. :wall:

Just got it sorted out!!! Car very quiet, Awesome!!!

Any takers?

10 'Mighty Smug' points to the person with the first correct answer!!! :smirk:

took the hand break off?

closed the boot?

was it a badger in the spare wheel well? There are lots of badgers in Wilts.

Nope.

But you made me laugh, a lot!!!

Nope.

No badger neither! :giggle:

Kicked the missus out?

Tool kit in the spare wheel well or the deals on the quarter window?

FWIW, if you want to get an improvement on that front, then I'd suggest some dynamat type material placed on the boot floor and most importantly the spare wheel well. If you want more, then a good quality underlay or matting under the carpet helps too.

Ditto if you can get a little bit of dynamat under the rear bench.

Basically the back of the car acts like a drum unless you damp it a bit.

The wife got out of the car?!!???!?!?

I've been known to not quite fix the bonnet prop in properly before which caused an almighty rattle! However that would be the front not the back...

Left a rear window/door open?

Didn't have any wheels on

My estate is 'boomy' sometimes, despite my wheels being in line and new tyres, just a characteristic of the car I guess. I just turn the radio up!

Come on then Cat Man! Enlighten us!

Well it's definitely a case of a little knowledge is worse than none at all!

And anyone suggesting the dull drone in the only occurred when the wife was onboard is actually wrong... This time!88

Good shout with the Columbus and Xenons. Have the other 'cool' options caused the noise?

Definately an item of uncool stuff! Especially after only 40K.

Everybody is being a bit too clever.

Noisy back end, and its nothing to do with a vindaloo, (for a change).

The guys in the garage I went couldn't believe it, after only 40,000 miles.

It was the O/S/R wheel bearing rumbling merrily to itself at anything above 30mph.

The mechanic was trained by Skoda in Poland and see said it was "noisy very!"

My own fault really I read the forums first and the seed was sown... Doh!

Good news is though, the 1 year warranty supplied with the car, from a citroen dealer, is picking up the tab!!:thumbup:

Not a thing that happens to me often!

Car is now very quiet inside, and on the upside some very annoying vibrations have also disappeared. Funny that!!

Back to planning the next mod, well after the Eibach kit!!! B)

I was about to say wheel bearing but I am about 10 minutes too late.

I broke one once, the noise drove me absolutely insane! Though that was in an Ibiza FR - not very well known for their sound deadening qualities.

The best bit? Probably the fact that it took SEAT over a MONTH to replace it (under warranty) and I put about 3K on their courtesy car.

Pity it was only a 1.2 Petrol though.

Result that it's covered under warranty.

Enjoy the car!
