unleaded V super unleaded

Featured Replies

Ive got a Mk1 & Mk2 vRS.

Do you see any difference/benefit from putting super unleaded in?

Is it worth the extra cost??

Yes and Yes. V-Power.

I've been told that sports versions of cars, especially remapped, are designed to run better on 98 RON.

Diesel V-Power however, is a ******* waste of money.

Yes. No difference between Tesco 99 and V Power apart from 5p/litre

Yes there is a difference and yes even the standard car recognises it's use and adjusts for it. Remaps will almost certainly prefer it and go to stage 2, probably require it!

VPower FTW!

Tesco momentum is boosted from 95RON to 99RON by the addition of bio alcohol. V-power is refined from crude.

Oooh, refined and crude! Just my type Lol!

Sorry mucky mind mode!

I noticed that v-power diesel makes more torque low down than fuelsave.

Going up the same hill at same speed & conditions the car will choose 3rd gear with fuelsave but with v-power will select 4th.

I use the hill most days and in the car went up more heavily laden and slower using v-power as well.

So in my experience v-power is worth it.

I didn't notice any difference between 99 and 95 RON in my 1.8 TSI with remap so just use the ordinary stuff now. The manual does say that you won't gain any benefit by using a higher octane fuel than 95. I believe the TFSI engine will prefer 98 ron fuel tbough.

Maybe, but 99 RON is 99 RON. I'd be surprised if my engine can distinguish between either, as my bum dyno cant

I beg to differ

All petrols are the same, refined in the same places. Each company has its own additives which are added at the point where the tanker is loaded. Tescos has a higher Octane due to its additives will give theoretically better performance when the throttle is wide open.

Ive tried both to get a comparison in tuned cars, I couldnt really notice any performance gains but the Tescos gave a lower mpg & with one car it ran like a bag of pooh when cold, had a horrid lumpy eratic tickover. I stick to V Power in all our cars, its helpful that we have a Shell opposite Tescos so it keeps V Power prices keen

My car, as per sig. For a long time I was running Tesco Momentum 99 - it made no difference to power or MPG from Shell. This isn't just a passing comment. I know what MPG I get and I know that neither fuel offered any difference - allowing of course for expected variation.

I'm sure some people find V-Power amazing, I tend to think of those as the same people who buy "Gold Plated Cables" for their audio setup's - but that is a different subject.

As fuel prices continued to raise I started using the Standard 95, just to see. Once again, I'm seeing absolutely no difference in either performance or MPG.

I do ever so often try "premium" fuels for a month, time for the other stuff to flush out so I'm only running on the premium and seeing so very little difference I do tend to stick to the 95 stuff.

I think you'll find additives are added at the pumps. Base petrol is the same where ever it get delivered to

There was a guy on Seat Cupra forums who did around 8 tanks in a row to test it. Not sure about torque, but the overall MPG was worse than normal fuel save diesel.

'Honest John' - Telegraph on Saturday and comprehensive motoring website, consistently advises against the use of supermarket fuel. I never fill up at supermarkets and will put V Power in the tank when possible. (1.8Tsi).

If you've not come across this source (Honest John) of info before, I can only say that it is a mine of sensible, comprehensive and detailed source of info relating to everything connected with motoring including legal and technical.

I beg to differ

In my car, I get the same mpg and same performance fron either shell or tesco. Like I said, it was my experience that the only difference is the price. This "supermarket fuel is crap" debate has been going for years, but at the end of the day there is a statutory technical spec to be met. I'm afraid I am very sceptical of the fuel companies marketing hype, and if I can't detect a difference, then for practical purposes it aint there. Pay your money take your choice!

i didnt notice any difference between "normal" and premium diesel in my fabia tdi,but in my tfsi v-power does make a difference to smoothness compared to 95 octane

I believe the Tsi engines run on 95 Ron unlike the Tfsi engines with need 98 ron or above

The only difference is in a few of the additives, V Power also contain Ethanol 0.00 - 5.00% to get the higher RON rating just like Tesco.

I use momentum when Tesco have money off promotions on. However, most times I use Morrisons unleaded. Don't see/feel any major difference to be honest!

There is a noticeable difference between 95 and 99 Ron in my car, but it is remapped so not surprising.

Really? I think you need to question your sources fella.

I run both mostly tesco but if I can't get it then shell.

More IPA and Methanol in Momentum.

I've run my lawnmower on both regular unleaded and v-power. I have to say I DID notice a significant placebo effect with the v-power so that is now my fuel of choice for the future.
