Sunroof drain blockage causes bad back!

Featured Replies

Hi Folks

It's a long time since I contributed here but thought I'd share my current woes!!

Hetti's got blocked sunroof drain tubes, the silly girl! First noticed wet carpets onTuesday - no, not wet, soaked! Press hand on carpet and hand submerged in water! Front and back.

Into Chapman's at Pickering, quick diagnosis, seats out, carpets up, insulation drying out, wiring loom in floor drying, etc, etc. She'll be in intensive care like this till next Thursday (my choice as I'm away next week on work so the longer she has to dry out properly the better I feel.)

Meanwhile I've got a horrible little under-powered Corsa courtesy car. Driving position totally different, of course, and much lower. Hence, within 24 hrs, excruciating BAD BACK!!!!

Heti, GET WELL SOON PLEASE. I'm over-dosing on pain killers!

Happy motoring everyone.

(sent from my sick-bed!)

Hope it's as good as new when it returns. What build date was your car out of interest?

Belive TJK is running Champans first Sept 09 demo Yeti, anyway I hope she's back home soon and leak free.

TJK would you please post the reason for the flooding when you get your car back. Was it debris blocking the drain channels or some construction fault.?

My Yeti is March 2010 and has so far been completely dry but I am wondering if there is anything that I can due to reduce risk of flooding apart from inspecting drain channels for leaves etc. My flaps are still unsnipped :0)

Hope you have good news on your return.

Hi folks. HETTI'S HOME :rofl::happy::blush:

Thank you for the 'get well' messages! Sorry for the delay in replying but Hetti was in 'hospital' till Friday pm (10 days in the end) and we collected her on our way to relatives for the weekend. :(

So, to answer your queries. Yes, she's nearly 3; b******y good job she had this problem now and not in September, she'd have cost a fortune once the warranty had run out!

The cause of the trouble, Chapman's say, was more of a hernia than an embolism. There are drainage tubes that come down all 4 corner pillars from the sun roof channels and empty out through the chassis (I'm no expert, just repeating what I think I was told, so someone may want to clarity this). They are orange plastic, fairly straight, but when they get to floor level they have black rubber 90 degree 'L' bends. They say the nearside front 'L' bend one was twisted and squashed (not blocked internally). Chapman's opinion is that it was a construction fault. (Who am I to argue?) It does beg the question why it's taken nearly 3 years to cause a problem, but we have had stupid amounts of rain in the last few months. :rain:

THIS DOES SUGGEST, THOUGH, THAT THE ONLY WAY TO PREVENT YOUR YETI FLOODING IN A SIMILAR WAY IS TO GET THE CARPETS ETC UP AND CHECK THAT NONE OF THE TUBES ARE TWISTED!

Hetti has been thoroughly dried out and cleaned. The carpets look and feel fine, the under felt dried quickly apparently, but they had to replace some foam padding (towards the front I think) as that wouldn't dry at all. Both front drain tubes replaced as well.

As for my bad back, it's getting better now but still stiffens up when sitting! At least the feckin Corsa's history!

Unfortunately the sunroof drains seem to be a recurring problem, and was the reason we chose to opt out of that extra when we ordered "Not".

I had a similar problem on my Octy 1 - but this only happened when the car was parked facing up hill (I guess it was the rear drain holes that were blocked). Took me ages to work out why the rear foot wells seemed to be constantly wet.

Worse still I had rubber mats on top of the carpet which only served to hide the problem in the first place.

With the amount of money paid for a Yeti, a Corsa seems a poor loan car when the problem is a construction fault. There should be a minimum entitlement based on the car owned. Surely the car was not fit for purpose or of merchantabe quality, the dealers need to stop using the word courtesy as if they are giving us something for nothing out of kindness.

Many thanks TJK Great news you are now sorted. Will have a full look at mine well before March 2013 :0)
