Featured Replies

One of my mates is organising a trackday at blyton park on 29th of september, thought i would put link on here as its idea for beginners and i went last time and really enjoyed it, anybody interested contact him direct or pm me

Track-Ninjas.Net are running another day at Blyton Park on 29th September. All who came to the last day had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed themself.

For those that do not know, Blyton Park is built on the old Blyton RAF base which was made up of 3 concrete runways. Track days on airbases are good for newbies as they offer loads of runoffs if you get it wrong, but are normally terrible for tyres.

When Richard took over Blyton last year he plowed £250k into a new purpose built tarmac track. He laid a new 1.6 mile tarmac circuit for track day and sprint use. This circuit has been designed with input from some of the UK’s leading road test and racing drivers to optimise enjoyment for drivers of all ability in all sorts of cars. It features slow, medium and high speed corners but provides wide run-off areas with no solid objects or barriers to punish the over-ambitious. We also have the option to run two different track formats on the day if wanted. There is an undercover area for repairs if the weather takes a turn for the worse

It will be an open pit day with time on track being 9.30-5pm (less an hour lunch) and although can run it for up to 60 cars, I will be limiting it to 40ish as per last time which worked well with minimal queues. 29th Sept 2012 based on 40 cars

£85 per car (Normally £99+)

Every driver and passenger will need a helmet, although the track has a small amount to hire.

The noise limit is 105bd.

More details and a writeup can be found on the blog www.track-ninjas.net

Payments are to be made to [email protected] via PP gift or add 4.2% on to the cost to cover fees

Here are a few pics of the day last time (property of Sean Robinson and Rich Smith):

Have to say, that looks like an interesting circuit layout.

Shame I'm so far away.

I did my first trackday there earlier this year, its a good beginners track as it quiet laid back and if you get it wrong then most damage you will do is flatten abit of corn.

Am going again this time with some better tyres this time as i found front end traction a real issue last time

I am thinking of going to this but have not done a trackday before - what do I need, any advice would be welcome?

Driving licence, helmet, and large testicles - I’ve got the first two covered but sadly lacking in the third

As Bryan says, license, helmet (you can sometimes rent one there) and a basic knowledge of track driving.

Have a read up on the latter, but to start with think making every corner as wide as you can to carry as much speed as possible through, so outside kerb to outside kerb with your car as close to the apex of the bend as you can. Obviously compromises have to be made for a series of bends together.

The secret is in being smooth. It doesn't look as fast or exciting, but it's quicker and safer.

And don't go too fast too quickly, build up to what you feel is comfortable.

You don't have to be the fastest.

It's always better to come home with a straight car and a smile on your face.

Cheers

Have done a few track experiences but never taken my own car, do you need insurance ?

I am not intending to go mad and will be driving well within my limits, but there is no point having a car built for the track if you are not going to use it, safely!

No, you don't need insurance. It's just for peace of mind. Buyer's choice. :)

Looks a decent track but even further away for me. Only ever driven on track twice so still see myself as a beginner. Take it easy for the first lap to learn how it goes then build up your speed to where you feel comfortable. Remember not only have you got to keep the car in one piece you've got to make sure your tyres and brakes are decent for the drive home. As BossFox says use all the track where you can. It's smoother, safer and quicker. There's no prizes for binning it as this man found out.

There was some instructers there last time altho dont know if there will be this time

The old bouton circuit was good fun. Use to go with the scoobylads.

Not seen the new track.

I quite fancy doing a day at Blyton as - it's the nearest...even nearer than Cadwell, and it's got massive run off should I bin it.

Can't afford to do it so soon after Prague though :(

Incidentally...I'm sure that white Integra in the first pic used to live around the corner from me a few years ago.
