What is it with lane police?

Featured Replies

There are just as many numpties driving trucks.

  • Sitting 6 inches off the trailer of the truck in front.
  • Weaving into lane two / onto the hard shoulder whilst he pours boiling hot water into his Pot Noodle.
  • Texting / phoning.
  • Not reading the speed of approaching traffic when pulling out to overtake another truck.
  • Taking two miles to overtake another truck.
  • Tailgaiting and intimidating other road users travelling at 56mph or less.

The list is just as long for truck drivers as it is for car drivers.

The difference being the consequences of their negligence in a 44 ton truck more often results in death or serious injury.

All of the above is true especially in 50mph zones on the motorway(M62 west yorks).

Truckers who won't move over to let you merge into traffic and when you do get on they sit 1inch off your bumper because your doing 50mph and they want to do 53 to 56 mph.

Accident waiting to happen... No sorry, accidents are happening!

They are being selfish, pure and simple, if you can get the queue in front of you down to one lane it will flow straight into the roadworks making your wait much less.

B01l0cks to the two rows of traffic behind you.

thats my thinking when driving my truck....... tho unless empty i make sure my escort always takes up lane two to make sure folks dont do unexpected things when im hauling machinery round at 100 tons ps

You are all of course correct, in different situations and locations.

'Merge on turn'.

This is not a Merge on turn situation.

Its a 'Merge in 1000 yard' 'Merge 800 yards' Merge 400 yards' merge 200 yards',

Then 2 lanes to go under a Bridge/flyover to enter the Forth Road Bridge Going North.

All the Merging has been done, or should have been done, 1200 yards, 1000 yards, 800 yards, 400 yards, 200 yards before.

Because now There are 2 lanes at Gridlock filing under the bridge/fly over. and about to go over the Forth Road Bridge.

The HGV's at this location just block a little a 3rd lane that is 50 yards or so from the Flyover Legs.

My original grump in the OP didn't mention at location. You have nearly identified it but the problems I encounter are always southbound between the Bridge and the M9

  • Sitting 6 inches off the trailer of the truck in front. Hardly 6" but I agree some drive far too close, but then when they pull out earlier YOU moan when they take 2 miles to overtake the truck in front, they can't win can they?
  • Weaving into lane two / onto the hard shoulder whilst he pours boiling hot water into his Pot Noodle. Is this any different to the poor driving displayed by people reading and weaving whilst driving, or smoking come to that - when they drop their lit fag in their lap?
  • Texting / phoning.Same for car drivers.... no excuse for it.
  • Not reading the speed of approaching traffic when pulling out to overtake another truck. Likewise motorists who are approaching in lane 2 who fail to see the truck indicating and refuse to move into an empty lane 3.
  • Taking two miles to overtake another truck.See point 1
  • Tailgaiting and intimidating other road users travelling at 56mph or less.WTF is a car doing less than 56mph on a motorway anyway? (when the speed limit is 70)

Nobody said there aren't, but in my experience they are on the whole better trained and read the road better.

Got to say the driving standards of truck drivers has been in decline for the past 15 years quite how sme of them think they are proffesionals is beyond me, tho i think the increase in eastern european trucks on uk roads has a lot to do with it after all its not a common sight to see a uk registered truck in an accident 9 times out of 10 its a foriegn left hooker

My point was the "issues truck drivers face every day" are the same or similar to those faced by car drivers every day.

When was the last time you had someone in a car sneak up the inside of you at a junction when you are turning left? A weekly occurance for us truck drivers lol

people that shouldn't be on bikes do that often
