How many miles from a full tank and which model ?

Featured Replies

I agree with psycholist on pushing the car when cold.  I do think it makes a difference also.  Just filled up again - 750 kms done and about 220kms left in the tank according to the computer.  That seems to be similar to most of my fills recently (was slightly less during winter months).  Works out at 45 to 47 mpg.  Computer reading at 5.4 litres per 100 km which is around 51mpg so, given the usual 10% deviation, the calculation sounds about right.   Driving is roughly 75% main roads at 80-100 kph with about 25% or so on slower moving/town driving.  Not the greatest figures though even for a 170 manual but I suppose taking all realistic factors into account its okay for a car that is quite heavy and still delivers decent power when you need it.

  • Had my 1.8TSi for nearly 2 years now and have recorded my fuel usage since day 1. Bought with 55k on the clock and now at 83k.    My stats are:   Fuel Cost in £ to date £4,677.28 Total Litres use

I've seen absolutely amazing (70+ mpg) figures on journeys that are downhill for the first few miles so the engine can get to temperature without having to do very much work. I find if I avoid pushing

  • I get around 40 MPG average (see my signature and spritmonitor account, I'm the number 1 in fuel consumption for the 1.8 TSI DSG!), but to reach this value as average you have to make some sacrifices:

Sounds like we are driving on the same roads! :D

We probably do and maybe even pass each other!  I do come across one or two magnetic brown Superbs every day :wonder:

Im on 666 miles on this tank so far and 50 miles left on "range" but the BP is 9 miles away so thats 1st stop in the morning

That's pretty much my experience too.  It's only since I changed jobs to be nearer home that it's gone down to 32; used to be around 36mpg average.

If you drive it like you stole it (actually I DID steal it so this is no theoretical exercise) then you can get FAR, FAR less than 29mpg!

Very sensitive to engine temperature: cold starts are brutal; same journey with a warm engine gives entirely different readings.

I find my best lift and coast Hamilton style works wonders on economy for this engine, far more than my old PD motor.

Worst I've seen (on a single run) was 24MPG coming back from work at 9PM and doing 30miles in 28 minutes through those 18 roundabouts. No traffic and the traffic light gods smiling down on me makes good progress. You are able to make use of that great rev range too.

Last tank was 35MPG which I was quite surprised about!

Are the tanks all 66ltrs?

672 miles, 53ltrs = 57mpg, 66-53 leaves 13ltrs in the tank, it said "range" 45 miles but 13ltrs is almost 3 gallons (almost 180 miles?)

Ah but where was the fun in that - average speed of 45mph :)  Bigger fuel tank too

I spend most of my time on the motorway at the relevant speeds, but my average is still under 45mph, currently 41mph over the last 3k miles.

Lots of time on the motorway followed by not that much city traffic soon brings the average right down.

My best distance to go on a tank shown on the MFD is 885 miles, not too bad.

The SuperB has a 60 litre tank not 66 litre.

1.4 Tsi 631.1 miles travelled / 95 remaining, and took 47 litres (exactly) to the '3rd click-off'. 58.8 mpg indicated / 61.03 calculated. Did an 850 mile round-trip between Tuesday and Wednesday evening. Mainly motorways / dual carriageways. Average speed on the trip computer (us poor folks don't have maxidot on our pre-facelft 's' spec. Superbs) was 51 mph. If I'm not in a hurry, I tend to just sit in line with the hgvs on the inside lane - so means usually running between 55 - 60. Also included at least 30 minutes crawling on outskirts of Manchester (diverted off M6 north-bound south of J27 / J28 due to serious accident, but traffic on M61 / M60 starting to get congested too -was after 4pm.

Cut to the figures? 58.8mpg indicated, 61.03 calculated. I find this amazing for a petrol-engined car the size of a Superb II. My main concern when returning to petrol after 20 years of driving diesels would be the impact on my fuel bills - well the difference is negligible for my typical usage. Still very happy with my Superb!

NB my displayed versus calculated figures are almost always within 3 or 4 tenths of one another (with the calculated always the higher of the two). In this instance, on the initial fill-up the tank had been filled a wee bit beyond the usual '3 click-offs' in order to get maximum value from an '8p off each litre voucher'- I reckon the difference is around 0.5 litres. (adjusted for this would make actual consumption 60.45 mpg)

Just spotted this quote:-

I've just started driving a Skoda Superb 2014 facelift 1.4tsi S - On my normal drive to work  (32 miles each way up and down a major hill and a mixture of single, dual A road, some traffic and some town driving) the trip computer is showing 47mpg - much better than I thought it was going to be. Couldn't resist the price of the car as it was many thousands more for a diesel and I'm trying to avoid dpfs.

Don't know how much I'll get out of a tank yet though.

If I had a petrol id want a 40ltr fuel tank and space for the LPG tank...

I've got the Suoerb TDi 170 SE manual and I'm getting around 600 miles to a tank. Only filled up 3 times so far and the last was the best. Hit 620 miles before the low fuel light came on. Typically getting 70mpg (according to onboard computer) on a leisurely cruise to work.

Definitely a significant improvement on my Octavia 1.8TSi which if pushed would give me 430 miles before the light came on and about 52mpg on the same work run.

Very happy with economy, just need to remember to give it a bit of welly now and again to stop it clogging up with all the light throttle work!

Type of driving etc will matter of course but 600 miles sounds about right.  That's pretty much what I'm getting as well.

As the weather improved so did my mileage. According to Spritmonitor my avarage is 4.8L/100km or 59MPG.

Had a good run out of the last tank 4.44L/100km(64MPG) and was able to cover 1222km(759miles) and according to computer still could do 40km.

I've read in many posts that computer is optimistic but in my case it is mostly spot on. What I have noticed, that deviation depends a lot on driving style. So the more aggressive the driving, the bigger deviation will be.

About 650 on a 2.0 170 dsg CR

on 60ltrs can i get from Calais to Roses (Girona)...800 miles/66mpg.....mostly boring toll roads

my 1st fill up was 62mpg going to Somerset and back with day trips when down there

I've just done my first tank in my 2011 2.0 TDI DSG elegance and got 472 miles from 40.71l of diesel. About 52mpg. Mixed 'A road' and dual carriageway, as they don't have motorways in Norfolk!! Next weekend is my first trip back to Manchester in it so expecting that to drop a little.

as its a 60ltr tank, 40ltrs is just 2/3rds, so IN THEORY you could hit 700 miles, maybe more on dual carriageways or motorways.....with no tractors

I managed just over 600 miles on a tank, reading to Newcastle and back in the last couple of days. Mostly higher speed travel, many bits of 50mph limit and a few traffic jams.

Car claims to have 80miles left before reserve too.

Computer was around 55/56 mpg ave, to be checked by a fill up tomorrow. All at ~2000 miles old, so not bad going :)

Sadly I was a bit late getting near Rockingham though :(

General consensus then for the 170 seems to be around 600 miles on a tank.  Quite a few of us are there or thereabouts
