where is the steering sensor located?

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me how to find this power steering sensor, my light comes on every so oftern, but i switch car off and back on to clear it, do you think it needs a clean or has a loose wire? If anyone had pictures that would be a great help.

Cheers, bill

PAS sensor is .............turn wheel all the way to the left.......then look along the steering track arm into the engine bay from the drivers side wheel..........at the base of the steering coloumn you will see either a black plastic box about 2cm x 6cm big with a wire comming out of it or a smaller gold coloured plate again with a wire.

If you have a vRS, you're unlikely to have the original problematic sensor.

Firstly, how old is your battery?

Just replaced the battery a few weeks ago as the old one died on me. Its an 04 vrs with 97k. Just sometimes i start her the steering wheel symbol comes up and steering is very heavy at slow speeds. I think my cars wiring is a bit dodgey at times.

OK, did you change the earth cable from battery to the car at the same time?

Over time they corrode and increase resistance to the point sometimes where the power steering won't work as it requires the most load.

Did that to mine and it sorted a whole load of electrical gremlins out.

Only cost £13 or so.

No i didnt change that, ill look into that, is it the one that goes onto suspension mount area? ill look after work and see. My light was coming on before i even moved the steering though, could that still be it? cheers

Yeah that's the one.

It's the only earth from the battery so it's quite crucial to electrical systems :)

excellent ill give that a try before spending money on a new sensor etc. Is there a premade skoda wire to buy or just get some earth cable from an electrical suppliers?

chees

Get the proper one from a Skoda dealer, as it comes with the right connectors etc.

About £13

Takes 5 minutes to fit as is only 2 bolts.
