Leon Cupra R ?

Featured Replies

Been toying with the idea of part exchanging the octy vrs for a Seat Leon cupra R. Have heard on others threads about build quality but i like the look of the car and the extra power wouldnt go amiss. Ive not had the chance to test drive one yet but got a phone call from a dealer today offering me a 04 plate in black with 9000 miles

you'll be going for the 225 version then?theres a few extra trim differences between the 210 and 225.they map out to about 265 bhp :) which is fun, brembo's are exellent.

deceptively quick in a straight line, the one i drove had me in rick of a ban in no time.

hate the dials on them though, they look like rice paper.otherwise, same sort of niggles as skoda i imagine,oh watch out for cracking windscreens, they just crack at random.

btw you have checked on www.seatcupra.net ?

Thanks for that, yes ive been looking around the seat site for a little while now, i get more and more tempted every time i see one, trouble is ive spent far to much money on cars the last few years, even my better half is moaning about this one (shes never done that before  ). So im really just testing the water. The other option was to remap the octy but for a bit more money i can have same sort of power with waranty + better brakes, may even be cheaper to insure than an octy with map.

nice link, cheers

they are nice cars i test drove one when i was 19 dealer dindt blink an eyelid lol.

what i found was that it sent shooting pain from my shin into my knee not good so i had to veto that car,

but apart from that, the handl;ing on the car is immense took it up a series of single lane backroads that i drive every day, and must say i was very pleased with the capabilities it showed in this corner, straight line speed like someone said already is immense also. i found that there was not a lot of room in the back, i am 6'2 not that i would have been in the back much.

boot space is reasonable alto seems smaller than he octy. trim is fine sseats really comfortable, but i still prefer the OctyVRs

Just checked insurance, same company im with at the mo (privilge) and guess what, its

Go for the LCR!! The mods list on mine is just a little long, but I enjoy driving it still every time!! Only thing you will notice after a bit of ownership is that the suspension isn't that great... I've been trying to save up for some coilovers now for a while, but keep spending the cash on other things!! :(

Mods list on mine looks like this:

Done:Tints | Sun Strip | Chrome Reg Surrounds | Chrome Grille Surrounds | Chrome Mirrors | 2 Alloy Tax Holders | Fabia Wiper | Aero Front Wipers | Forge 007P | Red Samco TIP & Upper IC Hoses | S3 Upper Strut Brace | Powerflex Dogbone Bush | Black Compomotive MO 18" alloys running GSD3's | Green Filter with COLD air feed | A&M 3" DP & 100 Cell Race Cat | A&M Single Silencer Stainless 3" Zorst | Ferrodo Pads | Autowindow Reflex | Monster ICE Install

In the Garage: 5mm Eibach Spacers | Oil Temp, Oil Pressure & Turbo Gauges | Black & Red TT 17" Wheels (for track days) | TT Arch Vents

Wish List: Coilovers & ARB's

Oh, and did I mention Jabba claim 287bhp & 295lb/ft from it? 287bhp I think is a tad optimistic tho!!

Sounds like a nice motor you have there.

287bhp  is that just from a remap?

You didn't read my mods list then?? ;)

Remap

Green Filter

Samco TIP

Samco IC Hoses

3" Downpipe

100 Cell Race Cat

3" Exhaust with single sports silencer

Think 287 is still an optimistic number tho - doesn't feel like it's that much if you know what I mean!

is there enough room for robdons list lol and hes kicking out 297

is there enough room for robdons list lol and hes kicking out 297

He's isnt an LCR.

thought his was a cupra 210

Its a Leon Cupra (180 bhp std, same AUQ engine as Octy vRS)

ah I see what you've done there A.D... sorry for being stupid. I have punched myself in the ear, please ignore me

Just spotted this thread as a growing family means the Fabia is likely to be being replaced in the next few months. Anyone tell me how the Leon Cupra/FR compares to the Cupra R (in terms of the driving experience). Also tempted by the diesel FR, but it looks like my mileage will be reducing over the next few months so economy will be less of an issue ;)

Have already looked at the Octy as an alternative, but it's a bit too big (or at least feels too big) for my other half to drive so I'm looking in the middle..... :D

Chris

i'm sure cupr rog will help here as i've not driven them both hard, but the R has its advantages in the handling stakes, though it can still be made better with coil overs and anti roll bars.

not sure of cost to upgrade a leon to leon R spec(handling wise0,wether its worth the price offset.

in the looks dept the fr/later leons do look as good inho to the cupra R in there own right.tuning wise ,if thats your bag,the R has the twin intercoolers and bigger turbo,so a chip upgrade will yeild higher outputs, but the traction and cost of 18 inch tyres should be taken into consideration ;)all depends on personal preferance at the ned of the day.you'll like either i'm sure.

octy?big?we've gone from an ickle seat ibiza then cordoba,to one,mrs is quite at home with it . :)

I drove both the 180 Cupra (as it was then) as well as the LCR before making my decision. Both are very capable cars out on the road, but with very different set-ups...

The Cupra / FR is a comfortable and competant car. It will take what you throw at it while giving you a smooth ride without too much bodyroll.

The LCR has been set up more sportily, so you do feel the bumps more, have more feedback etc, but the set-up of the car does mean that it will lean on the corners more than you would expect.

To me, the Cupra felt a bit too much like the Volvo T5 my father had at the time - a comfortable, fast cruiser, where-as the R felt more of the hot hatch racer. On the motorways tho, other than the power under your right foot, there's not really much difference to the ride comfort.

All I can say is to try both cars, preferably on the same roads. Don't let any dealer tell you that "the only difference is that the R is a bit stiffer than the FR" or anything like that, as the suspension set-ups (spring rates, damping rates and anti-roll bars, as well as rear axel ride height and front subframe) are different between the two cars (strangely, the R having the smaller anti-roll bars!)

If you ask this question over on seatcupra.net you will get loads of answers from people that have owned both, rather than basing things on a memory of a test drive...

One thing I will say though is that, the Leon is essentially an Octy... other than the cosmetic differences, the main differences in the cars lie in the size of the boot, the octy being the bigger.

Thanks guys! :D What got me thinking about it, is there's a banana yellow LCR at the end of our road which looks the dog's danglies (much better than the Octy vRS IMHO :sofahide: ), and the other half said it looks the right size for her to drive. As far as hardness of the suspension goes, I doubt it'll be an issue as the Scooby had a "sporty" ride and that was fine over the local roads here. I'll take a mosey over to CupraNet

Chris

Ive just traded my octy vrs for a cupra r225 i get it tomorrow, test drove one on saturday just turning the key and listening to the sporty exhaust as standard at idle,i knew i wanted this car.the only thing with the car is the harshness of the suspension on slow normal roads but probably get used to it.
