PiD...Not a happy bunny. No discounted map updates!

Featured Replies

I thought it would be a good idea to register the PiD to take advantage of the offer of 2 years map updates for £20.

this has to be done within 30 days of the device being used for the first time

apparently i can't!! :@

after spending about 1/2 hr updating the device software (because there is no access to the offer till you do)

i followed the instructions in the quick start guide only to find that the offer for our device expired on 22/7/12 WTF?

that means it was powered up on 22/6. :S

so do Skoda do this as part of the testing process at the end of production?

i'm going to start with a call to the dealer.

anyone else had the same?

The PID isn't matched to the car until PDi, it has to be ordered separately. As you need an email address etc we can't register them so has to be done by the customer when they take delivery.

I just spoke to the dealer.

Apparently they have to order stock of these separately, as you say Tech1e, in advance.

It would seem they might have had this one out of the box for a play at some point?

waiting for the sales manager to ring me back but it looks like our unit will just be swapped out for a new one?

If you turn it on without it being in the car on first start up it won't work properly, so I doubt that very much.

They are security matched to the car to stop someone stealing one to use in another car.

Update.

Dealer phoned this morning.

They are going to replace the unit for a brand new one.

Result. :)

It's 30 days from the first satellite fix.

It's 30 days from the first satellite fix.

May have not made it clear from my first post but that's how I understand it

Update... New unit fitted, software updated, current maps installed and 2 years of quarterly updates for £17.

Job done :)

What a carry on. Glad they sorted it for you.

I was informed by the Dealer that the up dates are free for life. I understand that if you use live traffic reports you have to have it connected to a mobile phone via Bluetooth

Is this correct

Auric, no.

The live traffic works on the unit it's self, much like any other satnav.

When we got our PiD there was an offer that gave two years updates (4 a year) for £20 but I don't think that offer is still running ?

A bit blunt but not got much time. Sorry.

IF it helps anyone (google searchers!) I just picked up my ex demo (3 month old) sport, and of course the navigon had been used. -- but not registered for updates via navigon (garmin) http://www.navigon.com/portal/uk/karten_services/fresh.html

But when I created an account it of course said the offer had expired. I quick call to garmin/navigon support and they saw my pid had had its first only registration on my email, and reset their systems to allow me to buy the 80% discount 2 year maps!

Took just a few minutes, very easy and helpful customer service.
