My ICE Install, well sort of...

Featured Replies

Ok,

I know I bought the Skoda Sub a while back, just got it fitted along with the Pioneer DEH-P77MP, the sound improvement from the H/U alone is excellent, however I can see myself getting some upgraded speakers a.s.a.p now as the H/U certainly highlights the limits of the speakers. The sub isnt as good as a dedicated aftermarket one but it is still noticably there, and with a bit of fine tuning certainly packs a nice punch (loud enough to shake the windows :o) with no distortion or flatness, just nice and crisp, the best bit is that all the Sub's controls can be fettled with at the H/U meaning I dont have to dig around in the boot (and yes I choose to keep the storage box under the driver/passenger seat), I know for some people they will want banging music that you can hear from the moon, pimp it up in their skoda style :D but for me I wanted something a little more subtle but still attracts a nice bit of attention, but without going OTT.

Anyway, enough of me rattling on, here's a picture of the Sub in the boot, and a picture of the wiring going into the left rear arch, I also opted for it to be hard-wired to the battery so that the Sub's built in amp doesnt strain the H/U.

I havent taken a picture of the H/U as im sure enough of you know what it looks like by now

*Just a note mate, if you upgrade the speakers...Id sort the soundproofing out too. Increase quality IMHO less vibration, sound is all car not escaping etc.*

Whats the punch like? Whats the size?

Looking good Chris, proabably something I will consider soon as I need my boot space for the moment

Yeah it doesnt take up hardly any room in the boot & if you want you could have it under your passenger/drivers seat and be none the wiser that you had a sub down there, but yes it packs a nice clean punch.

Hmm. Would it fit under the Octy's seat?

Ive got a compact active sub coming.

It should fit nicely under the drivers seat (Felicia seats are mounted quite high) together with some SPX comps up front and alot of sound proofing it should be sweet.

Like the look of the Skoda active sub, a good solution for needing a bit more bass.

How would it fit under passenger/driver seat though in the Fab vRS?

Passenger side has changer, driver side has storage?

Looks good though

My car has been soundproofed as per my sig and it definitely helps lift the clarity of the standard speakers by dropping the noise in the mid-range mainly :)

You'd have to remove the storage box as I wouldnt want to move a CD changer, it'd work out costly, that's why I opted for it in the boot because although at the moment I have storage boxes under both my seats, i'll soon have a 6 disc changer.

It looks very good fitted the way you've got it, it doesn't look like it would take a lot of space :D

I've got one of those Blaupunkt subwoofers but haven't fitted it yet. There was a lot of talk about mounting it under the front seats which sounded great but when I checked mine it won't fit without blocking the rear footwell vents. the only other way is to cut away parts of the front seat and mount it to the bottom of the seat base

I don't really want the sub in the boot so if anybody does manage to get it to fit under a seat can you post how you managed it

Cheers,

Does the Skoda sub plug straight into the Symphony HU & How much is it?

Is there enough room under the driver's seat if there isnt the CD changer there?

Install looks good.

I would have though the sub is a speaker line in so would need splicing into the loom. Usually takes its power from around the fusebox area on the relay plate iirc.

Mine has been hard wired into the battery apparently so that the Sub runs off it's own amp and not the H/U, in turn not draining as much power.

The sub/amp power wouldnt run off the headunit anyhow. Is it coonected with RCA's or into speaker connections?

I mounted this today as the weather is nice

Handy spaces under the seats ;)

Im pretty sure you have to splice into a channel (or pair) of the speaker wires out of the headunit.

That is a very neat and tidy install! I would love to hear how it sounds at the next meet.

I need new front & rear speakers now, what does everyone suggest ? :D

I want some which would match nicely to my H/U which I consider to be one of the best budget H/U out there, im looking for the same kind of setup, the best I can get on a budget

Its probably worth spending a bit more on some front components are leave the rears just as rear fill. Are you going to amp the components? It would make a massive difference to the sound of the install but may overpower that little sub in the back. Focal's are very good, have a hunt for the new slimline models as they will fit in the Fabia doors.

Ive got a compact active sub coming (hopefully) from a contact in the trade ;)

I quite fancy one of these - 110 quid from Empire Direct is the best price I've found from a web search.

Anyone know if 9cm will fit well under the Octy seats?

For the guy with the amp under the seat, what sorta power (amperage wise) is it pulling, remember to keep it cool, especially if there isnt much clearence under the seat, as the heatsinks can become pretty hot - wouldnt want you to get your g/f 's knickers on fire lol

I know the vrs cd player has 2 pre-outs (Have 2 amps connected to it). Just need to buy the cable from bluespot.

lol, ta for the concern, ive mounted the amp on a platform so its raised up to allow air underneath it. It has about two inches or so clearance above it and a built in fan, think it should be ok.

I had a look today - no chance - the seat has a bar across the bottom about 3-4cm from the floor. Plan B I think!
