air filter options

Featured Replies

hi all ive got a stage 1 apr remap with kw coilovers and the rest standard on my fsi vrs. what im looking for now is and air filter but dont know whether to go down the induction route or panel filter so really im looking for your suggestions as to which will be better for my engine

It's all a personal choice really as arguably none really give a noticeable power increase, although a nice carbon box should be more efficient compared to an open induction type filter as it will just suck in hot air.

Have you heard of Carbonspeed? Mainly this one - http://www.carbonspeed.co.uk/product_cs100.asp

It's £180 + VAT with a Pipercross filter....

I have one that I'd be willing to let go, I wanted to get it fitted but my insurers are completely against mods so I've not bothered to do anything yet...

It cost me £220 all in with postage but if you want it I could let it go for a sensible price.... let me know though as it may not be what you're looking for!

Thanks

Just stick with stock box and filter. The gains from an intake at stage one won't be much and your insurer will like you more.

This one is for the TFSI isn't it as opposed to TSI? Not sure what the op has.

edit - op states FSI and avatar is pre fl

It's generally accepted that the Carbon speed/ carbonio are a waste of money on the TFSi, If you really want to spend some money get a proven intake.

I've just sold my BSH true seal intake in favour of stock box/filter.

Is that to doing with the stock filter being retained in the engine cover?

I believe so, the stock box cannot supply enough air (so they say).

I think the Tsi has a better design as standard.

Yes but you've only got to look at it to see how restrictive it is. Obviously there's reasons for this; sound reduction and preventing water intake amongst others. Therefore anything that takes its feed from the oem intake direct onto a cone filter that is enclosed to prevent heat soak has to be more efficient at getting cool air into the engine.

As I said though, nothing really makes a noticeable difference - especially not on its own, it's always been this way on just about all cars I've ever owned....

It depends what you want to achieve, the Carbon ones at least look nice under the bonnet and they'll no doubt make the car sound a bit better...

I suppose in the cold winter the car should probably feel better, but they always go better in nice cold dense air anyway.

I think whether it makes a noticeable difference is a matter of debate. Some people don't think v-power over normal petrol makes a noticeable difference but I do.

I fitted a panel K&N into standard air box and for under £40 I cant complain.
