Featured Replies

hi all as the title suggests is there a way i can remove the cigarette lighter and replace with a 12v cover as its looking tatty and i dont smoke so will never us the lighter? also does anyone know where the fuse is located for the lighter?? thanks

Surely you just remove the cigarette lighter and pop in the plastic '12 V' cap that is now supplied on the latest Octavia's?

The fuse is behind the panel which is sandwiched between the dash and the drivers door.

The fuse number/location will be identified in your owners manual.

Oh I thought it was a spring loaded cap like the one in my estate boot?? Basically it's an imitation lighter?? I like the USB idea but I couldn't keep it in there all the time as it would burn something out eventually!!

Yep, cost saving at it's best!

Thats what i got for mine.Just a few quid on the Bay :)

You got a link to an eBay one? Might swap mine out as well as I don't need the cigarette lighter bit :)

I think I have a few old ones from my Volvo. PM me your details and if I can find it I will stick it in the post to you.

If you don't need it to be brand new, why not just take a hinged blank plate one out of the boot of a VAG estate car?

(btw, the estate 12v plug covers are available from Skoda for abotu £8!! The dummy 12v cigarette lighters are available for about £4.)

how do these fit on does anyone know?

I haven't quite worked out why you'd want to take out the cigarette lighter that already fills the hole perfectly and replace it with a plastic dummy that... well, fills the same hole?

This is Ford's version of the Skoda filler, except it just push fits around the rim of the hole rather than dropping all the way in.

ive probably worded the original post wrong but i wanted to replace the whole thing not just the lighter as its all battered from the previous owner so im replacing bits to make it all new looking again! with other cars to get a 12v cap you normally have to buy the whole lot

I removed when I was installing the jumbobox.

If you dismount the jumbobox, is easy to remove, just press until it goes out.

But I know that there's a specific tool to remove by pulling directly metallic cylinder.

After this, think that the hole is not a perfect circle, there's a straight side, and maybe you need to cut a bit to make perfect circle.

the estate 12v plug covers are available from Skoda for abotu £8!!

Have you got a part number for that please?

Have you got a part number for that please?

No, sorry, just what I was told by my dealer.

Blast from the past, but just found this for the part numbers.

Looks like you need to actually change the 12v socket to accommodate the cover if that's what you want, which might make it a little pricey unless you raid an estate in the scrappy. Having said that, it looks like it's a universal part from a lot of VAG cars so might not be hard to find both parts.

This is just the flap/cover on ebay, you can see the part number if needed.

Will be cheaper than that at the local dealer. That sellers prices are over inflated.

eg wheel bolt caps £4.99 dealer price £0.80

Sent from my Galaxy S5

Yeah, like I said earlier in the thread, they're £8 from the dealer, I just put that link up cos there's a picture and a part number on one handy page. :)

Just jumping on this thread

I bought one of these

which fits snugly in the socket. So snug in fact that it's a pain to get out afterwards. If the ignition is off for any length of time and say, the radio is left on, it goes off to preserve battery life. Does the 12v socket go off after a period of time as well ? Don't want to try it as I don't need a flat battery !

Nobody ?

Nobody ?

Does the LED light go out? that will tell you if it powers down or not

That's what I was thinking... just thought it was a bit... obvious. :giggle:

Do you have a link to buy one of these? I've found a single USB one (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Flush-Fitting-USB-Vehicle-Lighter-12v-Power-Charger-Adaptor-/121162935268?hash=item1c35dfabe4:g:ylIAAOSw-nZTqK1m) but would prefer dual USB!
