Hankook Ventus S1 evo2 or Goodyear F1 Assy 2 ?

Featured Replies

My vrs needs 2 new tyres....

Can get the Hankooks for 102 a corner, or the goodyears F1 for 125 a corner.

The hankooks have really good reviews, is it worth paying the extra 45 quid for the goodyears ?

Have always had goodyears but some of these ' cheaper ' tyres are really good value now and perform just as well...my only concearn is...how well do they wear ? Have just got 23k out of a set of Goodyear excellance and they are down to 2.5mm

Thanks guys !

I'd go for the Hankooks. Those S1 Evo2s have performed really well in tests, including a fairly exhaustive Evo test earlier in the year. Came 2nd IIRC.

They're also a great price at the moment, as they were up at £120-125 tyre only a few months ago. At the price you've been quoted it's a no-brainer.

As far as wear's concerned, neither of those will last as long as the Excellence. Purely because they're aimed at a different sector/buyer and will provide far more grip and performance than the Excellence is capable of. If you want long wear, then buy those again.

No more to add really, Wardy is bang on, both these tyre's are at present two of the top tyre's, flick a coin or save £45. .

A mate of mine runs the Hankooks on his tiTTy and raves about them! He's not a hairdresser either....

Thanks guys ! Going to give the hankooks a try.... as long as I can get 12 months and 16ish k out of them, they will do me fine !

Been running good years for 8k still have 5.5 tread. Got them for 115 a corner best tyre I have had the grip in the wet is excellent can't fault ten at all.

superb price can you share where from

Who me? A tyre company called Aberdeen tyres. They beat any price within the city.

Hankooks. Seller fitted two on the front, nice and grippy, nice and quiet, nice and durable. I bought two more for the back when the bridgestones finally became too much. Now done 25k, can't remember if they got swopped round now still lots trad left, about 3 mm to wear bars. Very pleased.

had both these tyres, good years unreal quite and grip, han****s thought they where very hard and noisy,

but im on michelin pilot sports 3 now, 13000 mles still going strong 5.5mm, quiet, more grip than i need and middle of the road comfort. but be prepared to pay more and first 1000 miles wondering if these where the right buy with low grip in the wet, but they come good now.

You got through a set of S1 Evo2's quickly then, if that's the exact model you had fitted of course. When did you have those fitted?

Just make sure what your paying for is what you are getting as there is an S1 Evo not the Evo 2, which Audi fitted to A3 from the factory a pretty decent tire to be fair. :)

Very true, the updated latest version is much better. That's why above I wanted to check it was actually the Evo2 being talked about.

I have used V12 Evo's for some time and really rate them. Will look at S1 Evo's next time for sure.

I'd caution use of RS2's though as I currently have them on my Elise and although dry grip and feel is great, they are treacherous in the wet.

The Evo2 were virtually the same price as the V12 Evo on Camskill the other day, so they're certainly the Hankook of choice :)

Absolutely Wardy.

I also switched from Kuhmo KU31 to Hankooks on the Fabia and the drop in road noise was dramatic.

Tyres are being fitted now, I feel a bit of a traiter.....first time I've strayed away from goodyears in the last 12 years !

I think after reading the good reviews and feedback on here, I can't go wrong for the money...

Excellent. Let us know how you get on with them, once they're scrubbed in :)

I'd also be interested to hear - don't think you'll be disappointed.

Slight problem.....

New tyres are fitted, but they are staying on the front, I did want to swop them to the rear, but the rear tyres are 'stepped' on the inside edge of the tyre, the tread is still even across the tyres and they tell me they are still ok, so if I swop them to the front I will be able to feel vibration. So now having all the geometry adjusted at extra cost....

Its not the dreaded sawtoothing is it ?

Yep, that's sawtoothing right there. If the advice is that they're still OK, I would swap them to the front so that they wear down quicker.

Obviously you will need to have the geometry checked and adjusted, otherwise the same will happen with your new tyres.

Well the geometry has been checked and adjusted, the ' stepping or sawtoothing ' wasn't too bad, I had to run my fingers over it a few times before I could feel the ' steps ' certainly could not see any the sawtoothing...

The back tyres still have 5mm of tread left on them so they should last another 10k or 7 months if I swop them to the front.

If I do swop them to the front, would I notice the swwtoothing through the steering ? Like I say I don't think the uneven wear is that bad and the garage did say they are still ok with 5mm of tread left....

If it's to that degree, then sounds like you've caught it in time. The result of the incorrect alignment is uneven wear to the inside edge. That's the symptom; it can manifest itself to varying degrees depending on the individual car.

I'd certainly continue and swap those to the front. You might pick up a slight difference through the s/wheel on certain surfaces, as the contact surface on the inside edge will react slightly differently because of the wear, but nothing to worry about. And that should even itself out as the miles go by anyway.

I had the same problem. Which I resolved by swapping - not something I normally do - The steering was much "sharper" not twitchy, just much faster response. I adjusted after a few miles, and after a couple of hundred mile was back to "normal". This was on the 17"wheels, so wider I presume, could have had a contributory effect?

I had a laser alignment done pretty soon too. (best thing done cost/benefit)
