I need a FMIC...

Featured Replies

as im sure our seasoned remapped fabia owners will already know, about how much of an **** heatsoak can be in summer.. i was out doing a bit of playing with vagcom this afternoon and found this out..

ambiant temp was 14.5 and it was raining (so water helping to cool the ic)

in the space of 15 seconds.. @ full throttle, from 1500rpm in 3rd, changing at 4.5k and then running up to 4k in 4th. the inlet temp shot up from 25c to just over 70c! and i would class this as a cold day!

This would figure why you get the "pulling back" effect if your accellerating hard thru the gears.. usually when you hit 4th

(colinD did mention it may have been quite humid.. dunno if that would skew results)

Thanks that had been worrying me

can you not buy kits that spray cold water on the intercooler... wouldn't this help?

Yes but IMO they dont look that professional, and I cant imagine then making a huge difference.

i have one :P

tbh i haven't noticed any fall in power yet no matter the weather, which is nice

Hows the fitment, is it the same as on a Fabia vRS as your Octavia vRS and how is it mounted etc? also do you have a dashboard button?

small misunderstanding i think, i have an fmic not water spray(although i am considering adding the spray) and i have a 4x4 not the vRS so fitment wasn't as straight forward as the bumper is a bit smaller :(

Actually we know somebody (waves to Jon) who had waterspray on his iccle side mount and it actually worked a treat.

Down side was looking and stopping as if you were a steam engine...5l in 130miles :D

I think it was on maxi spray...it is a very viable option and since it's hidden it matters not what it looks like.

:D It's a serious option over a full on fmic...and one you have it ;)

I must say, driving my Furby vRS about the other day, 22 degrees C and the drop in performance was certainly noticeable. I was quite dubious as to whether IC spray or FMIC had real gains, but in the hot weater, the standard one simply ain't up to the job.

Think my first point of call will be the hamster cage mod...

Josh has a waterspray on his sidemount..

hes yet to comment on noticeable gains.. altho im tempted to drag him out testing sometime soon :D

I've certainly noticed a significant increase in the smoke kicked out when accelerating hard - and as some of you may know, mine's a bit of a smoker anyway! I understand that a good sized FMIC will improve this dramatically. For those who have done the venting mod in the front wheel arch, have you seen any improvements?

Does anyone know if the Allard PD100 FMIC will fit the vrs?

Ho hum... more money to spend!!!

Allard have a kit for the Seat and I understand they have fitted them to 2 Fabias.

The Seat kit has been fitted quite a few times in Scotland ( cooler and wetter). It gives an average 12bhp gain and lowers full load inlet temp from 90 to around 25 degrees. At 90 the car automatically backs off to protect the engine.

Blackmagic,

Do you know how much this is and how easy it is to fit?

Lol... expensive and not easy. IIRC.

Blackmagic knows the details.

get the fmic mate, as said as long as i'm not sat still in the heat it has no affect on my performance at all

Thats all well and good saying that bengie.. BUT in real world terms your talkin over

no worries col :)

personally i'm happy to have the fmic and can't wait to get the cable so vag-com working so can do as your doing amongst other things

Been reading on another forum. They rate the S3 wheel arch liner a lot, it's 50% bigger than the TT one and still only costs around

definitly a good thing to do as it ups airflow over the standard IC ;)

Am hoping to do the wheelarch mod soon and get some solid figures... just trying to learn my way round vagcom first

My money's on the vent - cheaper, easier and arguably as effective as you don't get the heat build up as much in the first place. Also they'd be hard pushed to void your warranty.

arguably as effective

i'd argue that :D

the single little side mount IC could never be as effective as a big FMIC

the IC on my car is about 2 1/2 times as wide, maybe 50% taller and a bit thicker than the standard one.

But without airflow improvements you're not getting the best out of it.

the airflow is better though being at the front rather than the side, i can't say what temps i'm getting as i don't have vag-com at the moment. i'll post temps as soon as i get it up and funning :)
