Cant use my sd card reader.

So want to try to update the firmware but not sure what to do what's the best firmware for me.

I've no hidden setup menu.

So using my vcds I get the following details.

Vag number      1zo 035 680 a

Component.       Rns-mid   H04 1004

Identification.     Vd1----

Revision.           AB001001

Date.                 06.03.08

Man. Num.        0006

So any ideas what I can do. Also what map version can I go too

If any one would rather discuss this over the phone pm me your number and the best time to call

Thanks

Jef

Thats a very early columbus, that firmware version has a limit of 2GB for the SD card which must be non SDHC.

The latest official version of firmware for that unit is 1024, which again does not support larger cards, so you'll need to use an unofficial modified firmware to get the increased card SDHC support. 2724 is about the best you'll do with the 1Z0 unit, and this with the latest maps (V8) should also add 7 digit postcode entry to the navigation.

Upgrading the firmware is very risky, especially if the unit came from ebay, many units have been turned into door stops due to failed upgrades. The reason being the way some of the units had their radio code extracted by soldering onto the mainboard. if yours was fitted from the factory it should upgrade no problem. Chances are also high that the HDD will be erased, so make sure you have the map DVD ready to go as you'll need to reload it along with any music you transferred to the internal drive.

And of course if you do "brick" the unit while upgrading it and it was a legit factory fit one (as opposed to the stolen EBay ones) you can just take it back to the dealer and say "Stopped working guv, no idea why" and you'll get a new one.

Yeah I have the same early Columbus unit, factory fitted to a June 2008 model, so you would probably need to be on an extended warranty plan, or have just bought it with an approved used warranty.

The white sticker in the front of the service book will tell you for sure if it was factory fitted or not - look for the code "7Q2" on the sticker, but as Mike suggests it sounds dodgy if you have a code card.
