K&N panel filter.Worth it?

Featured Replies

I want to try this K&N pannel filter...looks interesting.

I'm not expecting much....just a bit better throttle response, and a tiny better mpg,for me is enough

How does this filter cope with the 1.8t?

Your not going to notice any difference between a new paper element and a K&N..

The performance panel filters don't offer much as stated unless your std air filter is old and clogged up. The std panel filters are good and perform well. The performance will make a little more induction noise that's about it. Best bet is to perform the 3" air ducting mod to the airbox

Unless you're going to change the fuelling, it won't change anything except maybe noise. Unless, as said, your current filter is past it's best. Tried K&N's on my bike and my volvo, and spent A LOT of time tweaking the bike on the dyno, and I will never buy another poxy K&N again.

Damned thing attracted dirt like nobodys business in the Volvo too, and took a whole lot of cleaning.

Or, put another way, the K&N actually filtered the air.

I have green panel filter which is re washable so will last longer than a paper type.

I think if you want to improve airflow try a bmc cda

Well yes, but because of the oil in the filter, the resulting mess ended up very restrictive in comparison to the next dry paper panel that followed. Which just needed a quick gentle blow with an airline at it's next service, with no stubborn crap or stains.

My biggest concern is the oil from the filter getting on the MAF.

I saw at some point that mod....can you help me with a link please?

Ive had no problems in over two years of running a k&n on my mondeo st220, no damage to maf at all, only get a issue if it's over oiled .

Don't be, this is very overstated and has not been proved whatsoever. This is a carry over from the old scooby forums boys. True their MAF are more sensitive but probably just coincidence more than real air filter issue. True over oiling is not a good idea, but they come pre oiled and should not be needed for 25,000 miles or so. I have re oiled many K&N's over the years on my Scoobys, ST 200, Octy's VRS etc

really, agreed no need to clean a std paper one , but not that painful to clean a K&N

Here you go my guide, ignore the drilling holes as i was mesisng with too much time on my hands. But you get the idea of the extra tubing

+1 and then you have to be a muppet to over oil the thing.

P.S my ST200 seems to like K&N Panel filters well, maybe the V6 none turbo thing
