Exhaust polishing

Featured Replies

Had the fab for a couple of weeks now and slowly detailing the car. The exhaust tips were black from neglect, and there's some pitting inside the tip. After a little go with wire wool it's silver but I can't get a proper shine.

Basically, is the exhaust coated, or is the shiny bit thick enough to really attack it without taking off a coating?

Is that harsh enough to get through pitting? I've been using the nxt metal polish, that usually does the trick...

Autosol works pretty well

I've got pitting on mine, and decided to give up trying to get it shiny. Autosol and very fine wire wool bring up everything very nice, but the pitting is still there and stays black, which is a shame. I think the metal itself is damaged, so not sure what else I can do.

silvo wodding

that a bit like brasso?

Autosol and elbow grease.

Maybe sand back the pitting with some wet and dry then polish to a shine.

yup wet and dry and then auto sol

+1 for autsol, there is still pitting on the tip where it is rolled in but as you say it's more like damage to the metal from neglect. But autsol brings it up like this :)

If your going down the silvo wadding or scotchbrite pad route, get some 00 grade wire wool on it afterward with the megs nxt. Not much you can so with the pitting unless you competely rub it all down, treat it, and get it chrome dipped again. Its just a fact that it was obviously done as cheaply and thinly as possible to begin with. The 00 grade wire wool will bring the shine back after using the harsher abrasives along with your metal polish.
