Fan appears to be on alot? more than normal

Featured Replies

The last few weeks the cars fan appears to be working overtime even on short journeys, The engine temp isn't even as high as half way before it comes on some times anything to be concerned with ?

I know its been really warm and having it running is better that not but it just seems that its on more than normal.

Is anyone else's car like this? - The cars a 2012 Tdi VRS.

Thanks.

Ron

if you have the climate econ mode disabled or are in auto mode then the fan will run almost all the time regardless of engine temperature to keep the gas flowing through the condenser cool

I had this problem with an 07 plate TDi Vrs, High pressure sensor in the Air Con was faulty causing the fans to run on when the engine was turned off. Sounded like a turbo prop taking off. New sensor, regas, job sorted

Thanks for the comment, Sorry, forgot to add that this is when the car has stopped and you have locked up.

I know once the climate was off, but what you are saying does sound logical ;)

BTW I think its terrible that I had to wait a whole 3 mins for a reply. :giggle: :giggle:

Big thanks again

Could be the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) attempting to regenerate

not sure its that but its worth a thought ;) Cheers

If they are staying on after you lock the car and it isn't up to temp, get it checked out.

as posted DPF doing a regen, you should find the DSG holding the gears longer to get the temp up aswell, just take it for a m/way run so it can do a full regen then it will be ok

Thanks for that going to give it a blast tomorrow :)

Will they do a regen if the engine isn't up to temperature? I would have though the engine had to be up to temp first? But then again I don't have a DPF so what would I know!
