Mufflerectomy..

Featured Replies

I have decat and mufflerectomy. turbo had 26k of pure abuse, never warmed up cooled down and only went pop when I let some **** get in when I changed the air filter.

Mines been de-catted for past year, drive it average with bits of raggin ;) turbo's fine. it's all just hear say if you ask me.

It's fact that less restriction in the exhaust = quicker spooling of the turbo. Weather it has a negative effect on the turbo might be slightly debatable but that fact it makes your turbo work harder is correct. So if you have a weak/standard turbo I wouldn't recommend a straight through exhaust aside the fact there would be no point as it wouldn't increase the power.

Is a mufflerectomy not causing less restriction? No issues here with a decat either, mapped correctly for it obviously. Apart from the decat with a remap that is for a car fitted with a cat i`v not heard any of the knowledgeable tuners on here or elsewhere say that a decat will cause any issues. I did a fair bit of asking before my decat as I was a bit paranoid about it causing issues.

What turbo you got dude? Standard kkk?

Hybrid 150, I know it's stronger than a stock one, but if a decat puts it under more stress I'm not sure the gains are worth it long term. :-/

Ive had my mufflerectomy done for about 15k miles an no problems with the turbo at all. Local garage cut off the muffler and fitted/welded new stainless pipe with a tail pipe on it andit sounds quality (no owl noise just a nice bassy roar. Need to get a decent video of it cause i heard the girlfriend roaring away with it the other day and i didnt realise just how mint it sounded. Really cheap option for a better sounding diesel i think and no drawbacks in my experience:) win - win.

Which garage in Hull? Seriously thinking about getting this done, I know I've not got a vRS but I'm sure it'll sound better than normal!

Elite Bodyworx on Sutton Fields industrial estate pal

I guess the point I was making as unless your upgrading the turbo and going for 200bhp plus a decat is largely pointless and will only cause a standard set up more problems than its worth.

Any luck with the video dude?

gotta love the hooting noise on shut off :)

I will try anf get my missus to get a video of mine later. It will be a photbucket special as youtube doesn't like me anymore :(

I find the hooting noise is very loud just after you've first started it when you change gear at low rpm.

After that I don't really hear it to be honest.

done that but there very many good ones

I dont have any video's of mine from back in the day to help either! Sorry.

Its worth it just the weight loss and then performance increase due to weight :D

The back box does weigh a hell of a lot. I still haven't been around anyone who I trust to take a video of me lol

Is the backbox removable or does it need to be cut off and a pipe welded on?

Cut off with a pipe welded and a tail pipe unless you use the original
