Mufflerectomy..

Featured Replies

What the fluff is it?

i know its something to do with backboxes but whats its purpose?

Cheers

you remove backbox and replace with straight pipe usually with a tip on to make it look pretty.

purpose - makes it sound nice and helps with weight ;) lol

I've had mine done and it sounds ace as the turbo comes on boost and has quite a nice burble on tick over, not noticed any difference on the motorway noise wise but does help the turbo spin up quicker i think.

I had as near to a standard looking tail pipe put on as possible so as to not get any undue attention.

YOu got a bid of the sound?

Look on youtube although the ones with the owl whistle tend to be pushing more than 130bhp and have 2.5" pipe all way through.

Is it not the PD150 turbos that make the twit twooooo owly noise.

No, It's any turbo just 2.5" from turbo back

Mine isn't 2.5" and it woots and hoots as and when you want it ;)

this is mine

So do you get pipe made of can you buy it

Mine is straight thro and mapped with no noise at all :(

Is that vid just with the backbox replaced with pipe? no other exhaust mods?

Sounds ace, might have to get mine done :)

I got mine done in HULL by a powerflow garage. For a similar tail pipe to standard it would have been £80. But i went for the twin pipe, same as Huxleys.. So cost me £100. The weight of the standard back box is a benefit in itself, but the sound is awesome! Just a nice sporty sound, turbo whoosh's and spins up louder, yet doesnt sound loud on the motorway :D Win Win for me as it doesnt sound like a tractor, or a chav'd up boy racer.

Do you still have a CAT mate? If so I might have this done as sound awesome but don't want too loud

Jesus christ not the pigeon pipes again :(

Which garage in Hull? Seriously thinking about getting this done, I know I've not got a vRS but I'm sure it'll sound better than normal!

Sorry guys I misread lol :(

Mine was just pipe nothing else. Still got a cat etc

Is it true that the mufflerectomy can cause turbo overspin, or is it a bigger problem after a decat??

Decat is certainly worse for the turbo than a mufflerectomy

i have a decat put im thinkin about putting my cat back in

I personally dont like the idea of a decat on these pd engines (personal preference)

I have a mufflerectomy with the cat still in place. I'm very happy and thats how it will be staying :)

I have decat and mufflerectomy. turbo had 26k of pure abuse, never warmed up cooled down and only went pop when I let some **** get in when I changed the air filter.
