Thoughts on an Octavia

Featured Replies

Wondered what peoples thoughts on the following Octavia was

2005/55, Manual, 1.6 FSI Petrol, Hatchback, 42k, £4000

It's approved used, which does add a premium to the price, but does come with a years warranty and it's very local to me.

To compare, some others in the area (not from an approved dealer)

18 months Newer - 2007/07, Manual, 1.6 FSI Petrol, Hatchback, 44k, £4200

Bigger engine, 2x mileage - 2006/56, Manual, 2.0 FSI Sport (not VRs), Hatchback, 80k, £3900

I would go for the last one condition wise, then I saw the mileage! none of them tickle my fancy .Put up a post on Briskoda wanting one, petrol vRS Octy go for around that money with way less mileage

First one been used for towing as well, to small an engine for that

I personally wouldn't buy any of them either, not at the advertised prices.

Sorry mate, but there is better cars out there for that amount of cash

No need to be sorry :)

Welcome to take any inputs on board!

Few other forum posts have suggested there is probably better value out there

Id keep away from the 1.6 as they are a bit undepowered and can be thirsty.

When I was looking for one I found What car free valuation service very good.

Plus I used to call dealers/private owners and ask for the V5 doc number to get the MOT print out from gov web site - plus the records of the service history book. Then I used to draw a time line on a peice of graph paper and plot the "events" - it was surprising how many inconsistances came up pointing to clocking.

But if they look to have straight history and the price is correct, then you have done your best. I found that most dealers consistantly overpriced by £500.

Thanks for the tips Phil - Parkers and the Vauxhall website have some decendt free valuation tools as well. Hadn't thought about the V5 trick though.

A good M1 here, member selling his :happy:http://www.briskoda....-fsh-low-miles/

That. Is tempting.

How about this beauty!

All the best options too!

I saw that one in the other thread and was quite impressed.

However having discussed some things through with my wife we're going to try and find an estate. MKII preferred, something up to 5 years old (this is going to be a long term car, so we need the space).

I'm going to spend some time this evening hunting around, I've already seen some nice vRS's on AutoTrader :)

I think the Octavia is a really good car. However, some time ago I test drove a Mk2 1.6 petrol. It was slow, thirsty and frankly very dull even compared to the old 1.9 diesel mk1 I was running at the time. Barge pole job I am sorry to say.

I'll keep that in mind.

The budget will obviously need to increase for the newer car, also the estates seem to go for a £500 premium.

Probably say £6-£8k, assuming that puts be me in the realm of something decent?

Well you could do a lot worse than buy the 1.8 TSI for that price and easily sell her on

Estate 1.8 TSi `s are impossible to find

Good luck!

The hatch is suprisingly spacious with the hight of the shelf.

have you thought about DSG that can need another £500

  • Author

The hatch would probably have enough room for 90% of the time, but we do find ourselves needing to transport some pretty bulky items at the moment. My wife is also saying she'd like a dog...

I'd really prefer a manual. As good as the DSG looks, if I'm keeping this car for the long term then a massively complex gearbox isn't something I'd like to look after without a warranty.

Not enough toys for me, if I was paying £9K for a petrol pre-facelift vRS it would have to be the perfect spec.

Silver roof rails, cruise and sunset privacy glass are the only options I can see.

No Maxidot, xenon's, rear parking sensors...

I do like white vRS's though, they are quite rare in pre-FL.

It's worth remembering petrol facelift vRS's can now be had for a little over £10K.

(you might want to repost the Autotrader link but with a dummy postcode as we can see yours).

Cheers - I had seen how cheap FL's had become, so I think I'll hold out for that. Just wanted someone to confirm it!

Maxidot is something I certainly want - I'd looked into the price of Shark retrofitting it. As I said above, I'll hold out for something with more toys - an FL SE Plus

(The postcode is a dummy one, well, it's the sorting office in the center of Chesterfield :))

I'm looking around for a mk2 estate with the same budegt but Diesel which also has a premium of around £1-1.5k

If I see a nice petrol I will post a link.

P.S. B.Different a member on here is thinking of selling his vRS estate (red) with some choice mods to it. If your interested PM him.

It is way too dear for Ben to fit new clocks( Maxidot) if you source some cheap clocks and have him fit fair enough, but it was near £600 when I inquired, they look cooler than standard, but no way at that price, I have a mate with vag-com, once you alter settings for your car (free) and much more detailed than maxidot, you leave them like that.

Tempted to go and see this at the weekend:

Skoda Octavia 2.0T FSI VRS 5dr Estate 2008 - £9000 - 37'000 miles

Doesn't have all the extras I'd like, and not a big fan of white, but it's not a bad price. Slightly dubious at buying a car privately from someone who isn't the original owner.

Personally I would not buy private , if it were a few hundred yes, but £9 grand?

Sorry but you have no comeback and in my experience it tends to end in tears if you are not very careful!

I would never buy something I did not want either ... colour, spec it has to be right or why bother?

You ideal car is out there , it can take a while , but that's half the fun?

Holy Moley - didn't realise it was that much! I didn't know you needed new clocks either, I just thought it was a new central LCD that clipped in and the plastic blanking plate was removed.

Definitely going to find one with maxidot fitting then!

Time to hold out for the perfect spec

Car giant have 4 estates in at the moment, one is a L&k which has everything!
