Felecia problem

Featured Replies

I have been having problems ,, twice in heavy rain the engine has cut out and i have had to leave the car where it was, the following day it has started OK and all is well,

the other day ,same thing.... this time i have only been able to start it after a week and a half, it runs but when you try to rev the engine it almost cuts out ( engine kind of hangs before revving)

has anyone got any idea what it could be

by the way it is a T reg (T...........) 1600 estate.

Thanks

Hi, sounds as though it could relate to water/damp ingress via the intake. Start from the intake checking filter etc and work back from there. From this if you find excess water/moisture you'll need to dry out and probably replace the filter element. If not related to this it could be water ingress to electrical components and this would require greater observation/checking to pinpoint. My Fav died more than once in excessively wet conditions & that related to the air intake

I have checked all the air intake system and everything is dry(it needs a new filter but as i say all is dry)

what should i try next?

Fairly likely to be a faulty distributor, quite a common fault on the 1.6.

Yeah, could well be - certainly either way you need to go through all the basics as often problems like this are things that simple service items will fix... and unless you know 100% that they're OK then you need to go through them - many has been the time when people (including myself) have said "well, it can't be that...I only changed it 3 months ago", when it has been the problem.

Ok .. so....since the last time we have put on a new rota arm and a new distributor cap it has been working fine and not a hint of any problem....... It rained today... and guess what...... ir drove for 2 miles and died again...... so it is back to square one.... whats wrong with it ?????????

Have you waterproofed everything with silicone grease?

Check the fuse box? I heard they can get damp and cause all sorts of problems!

If they're more than a couple of years old, a new set of HT leads should help.
