How do I make my vrs whistle on gear change

Featured Replies

Heard loads of fabias do this alot and to be fair it sounds really nice my mates bora does it to. I was told to take the cat out and I would get the desired result. I cut the cat out and welded a bit ov pipe in instead no change to sound so tried a stainless steel back box instead of standard one still no change not even when I tried it before I welded back box on and it was straight fru. Clearly I have done something wrong or I just have to pay for a proper system. Can anyone help me by telling me where I have gone wrong or if i have been just stupid.

Cheers stu

Are you referring to the whoosh noise like that made by a dump valve Stu?

It's the Decat that allows the noise from the turbo to come through. I had a full milltek turbo back no res and that made a loud whistle / cooing sound. My mate had a pd100 cat and middle silencer removed and that too made the desired noise.

Let me get this right you have done quite a bit of work plus spent quite a bit of cash to hear a whistle when you change gear I got to ask why.

In all seriousness though - it's the way you drive it. Mine does it will a mufflerectomy. I still haven't got it quite right but its not a noise that I was setting out for it to do.

I get a whistle from boost (possibly a tiny air leak), and flutter (AKA 'owl' / 'Pigeon' noise) when I lift off at low-ish revs.

I think the easiest way to achieve the flutter noise is to increase the bore of the exhaust. Or steal a pigeon and gaffa tape it to the roof.

I get the "whistle" noise between 2000 - 2500 revs when I accelerate...

...that will be all...

You want Owls, enrol in Hogwarts. :)

Seriously, the Fabia's a well sound insulated modern car. Try doing tunnel runs after each mod to try to gauge the difference. Or a cutting or anything where there's a tall wall nearby. To be clearly audible with the windows up whilst driving will likely be quite loud.

Having the turbo quack is much better I reckon!

There's no point as dump valves don't work on diesels. (plenty of threads explaining why)

However, if you could, that would be hilarious.

Pmsl at the duck noise!!!!! If someone fitted that they'd be unbeatable in a race as everyone else would be in stitches of laughter and unable to drive!!!!

Ooh interesting, will have to read about that!
