Discount on a used vRS from a dealer

Featured Replies

Just had a look on Autotrader at 1-2 year old petrol vRS estates and the prices are higher than or similar to the new prices with all the current special offers.

So, if anyone has recently bought 'nearly new', how much are the dealers discounting used stock by? I know the long lead times on a new car may be keeping the residuals high but not that high surely!

Thanks

Steve

That is just their advertised asking price

& if the car is not moving they need to look at any good offer. No need for them to get the money they want.

New Registrations coming out next week.

If you know what you want to pay, then make them an offer, they might just except it.

They will hum and hey, but they are there to sell, not to store cars.

What is to lose?

Buyers market not sellers, cars everyplace not selling.

Thanks.

Has anyone bought a nearly new car from a dealer recently?

Steve

Well trade ins are crap so I think dealers are wanting to have their cake and eat it right now.

+1, they only have themselves to blame for the slow down.

I enquired about P/X'ing my Octavia for another, they offered me bottom dollar for mine and wouldn't negotiate on the screen price on the other other.

They admitted that they'd offer me £6.5K for mine and put it on their forecourt for £8K in the hope of getting £7.5K for it.

So that's a £1000 on my car (12 months MOT and just serviced so all it needed was some tyre black and it would go straight onto the forecourt) plus the £1,500 - £2,000 they had on the their Octavia.

If they are able to average £3,000 on a used car sale then good luck to them, but they ain't having it off me.

Fully agree. Dealers want it all their own way. Worth looking at the car supermarkets. They don't seem to be as greedy but let's face it, if buyers are daft enough to pay over the odds, as a dealer, I would be daft enough to charge them. Us buyers need to stand our ground and say no more often.

Not recently, but got mine 3 months old in January......well chuffed!

I am going to be buying an octavia vrs 61 plate and have phoned a dealer in london about the car I am interested in and so far he had contacted me 3 times about my decision on buying it and it looks like the ball is in my court, so I am going to haggle the price down as low as I can get. The car has done 5000 miles and has maxidot and columbus satnav fitted plus spare wheel, it was registered in dec 2011 and the cost is £14995, so would be looking to offer £500 less.

If you don't have a trade in, I'd start off at £1000 less at least. If you are looking to buy finance off them, maybe even less.

Am I answering my own question here :D

What age and mileage?

I'd love a yellow one but my wife would kill me. Maybe I should grow a pair and just get one!

Thanks

If you've got a figure in mind for what you want to pay, then go to the dealer with offers around that value. As said, if you don't ask you don't get :)

If however you want to pay as little as possible (and who doesn't?) then prepare to be cheeky. Lodge a low offer and leave contact details. If you're not in a rush and you're prepared to hold your nerve, this approach usually works well. Working out the lowest value usually revolves around checking book value for the vehicle to the trade (usually via CAP Black Book). Alternatively check what trade in values from Glass's Guide is, for the vehicle you're interested in.

Best of luck.

Its an 11 plate not sure of the mileage but low
