Does the Yeti need a sunroof?

Featured Replies

Hear! Hear!

In my last car I could never stand the hot sun on my head with the blind open. Up to A/C in practically every car now it used to be A/C or sun roof. Now with A/C there is not much point.

Also I don't really like the idea of a big sheet of glass over the passenger compartment - rather have steel - stronger and it doesn't leak!

I have enough gadgets in mine to go wrong without adding a leaking sun roof. (and a hot head in summer, or a cold one in winter.

Some of were not even given the option when we bought our cars either....

Sadly I didn't have the option either otherwise......

I went from a convertible to the yeti so the sunroof was a must to compensate.

Used it lots in the first year, not so much second year and very little this year.

Front air damper sure catches a lot of flies!

Save myself £1000 by not ordering it on my next Yeti,

Gone for the gobi interior to lighten the cabin,

I wont miss the sunroof, got it out of my system now.

The 2 extras we wanted, but couldn't order with our new Greenline were the sunroof and the spare wheel(fixed that by swapping over the spare from our old Yeti.)

There are however many standard features I could happily do without, and 2 I would actually pay to delete.

The b****y useless auto intermittant wipers and the self dimming rearview mirror. :@

Really? If you dont like them you can always just turn them off I guess. :)

Yes I suppose that's true with the mirror, but if I turn the wipers off I can't see through the windscreen.

No, have the auto function switched off if you dont like it. ie they are then just normal wipers. It shows how different people are as I think the convenience of both of those items is great and I just cant wait for the sunroof to be opened on sunny days here and abroad. The blind goes back pretty much every day. :)

This argument will go around in circles ad infinitum. It annoys me though that people base their decisions purely on what they THINK a sunroof should do and what their great grandfather told them about these "leaky" things in the early 70s... They (still) think a sunroof is something you get instead of air con. But the world has moved on and some people use their brains a bit and actually USE their sunroofs to their own advantage. Just read post #40 in this thread again. But end of the day it is a case of each to their own. If you only want to believe what your great grandfather taught you and not move on, so be it. You probably still record Strictly come Dancing on a Betamax as well. :giggle:

(And yes had Graham been able to read this: I'm in my corner already!)

I could actually do without the aircon. I've had the car just over a year now and can't remember actually using it yet. The auto wipers on the other hand have had plenty of use. The sunroof has rarely been open but with the blind back it makes the car very light inside which is great.

You MUST use your Aircon..or it ultimately fail

Not used air con? It's not only for hot days you know. Wouldn't be without it for demisting.

Fred

what their great grandfather told them about these "leaky" things in the early 70s...

I have never had a car from the '30s, '50s, '70s, '80s or '90s with a leaky sunroof - all the stories that I have heard about leaks have been on this forum and involved the Yeti sunroof.

I almost never turn the air con off.....

I do put it on to demist the windscreen but then turn it off - I used to leave it on auto all the time on my 2.0 Octavia but on a 1.2 tsi I reckon the smaller engine doesn't need any extra drain on its resources.

And since we pretty much only had wet rather than any hot weather this year the demist function was all that I needed the air con for.

:wall:

Leaving the aircon on all the time is good for it.

Nor does it drain the electrical system or 'resourses' for the engine as you call it :giggle:

If you keep on turning it off you risk compressor failure

Wouldn't be without my sunroof, climate on all the time, auto lights/wipers - never had them before but would be loath to do without them now.

Good job we are all different!

Will certainly spec a sunroof on my next Yeti (unless the Octy III vRS lures me back to the vRS fold!)

So why do they fit an off switch? Thought it increased fuel consumption?

The difference in consumption is very minimal

Ah... that neatly brings us back to the sunroof! You switch the AC OFF when you open the sunroof. LOL Which just shows you: to make your car's HVAC system work properly and make use of all the buttons you NEED a sunroof! :giggle: :giggle: :giggle:
