Free DNS ?

Featured Replies

I want to log my static IP address at home to a DNS entry on the internet, are there any good free suppliers out there I can use ? Don't need webspace at all.

Thanks Ivan

I agree, and for anyone without static ip's they do an app you install on a workstation that tells the server what your ip is so you dont loose your Name registration

Cheers guys and this is completely free ?

It definitely is :D

I have used both of those in the past, and yes they are completely free. With dyndns you can also configure an MX record so you can receive email to your dns domain name.

www.zoneedit.com - absolutely free for 5 domains and complete control over everything. Am using it myself !

I use www.DynDNS.org - mainly because my netgear router will update the settings everytime it reboots... :)

(Which is a bit pointless in my case as I'm on a static IP)

My D-link one did that this morning. Only it all went wrong and updated my internet DNS record to 169.241.x.x

Doh!!

It will change it back again when you have a real IP once again

my linksys router also does this, although I'm sure it updates when the ip address changes?

The IP will only change if you reboot the router - it shouldn't change while you still have a device connected to your ISP...?

Not sure about that as the IP address has a 'lease' time, which could be renewed with a different address once that time has expired.
