Ah you have a Helix clutch..... need you to take me out as that what I was considering. :P

It rattles and the pedal is heavy! You'll have legs like a rugby player! I'm joking but it's alloy heavier than standard but feels really good. You can have a good feel of it at Combe if your there :)

Cheers, Dan. That's a statement coming from you, you're a big lad! My current one is light as a feather, will be an interesting change :D

I always said I'd go for a smf conversion when I needed a clutch but after hearing yours rattle at the dyno day it put me right off. I think it would be too hard to sell the car with it rattling like that as I know it would put me off cos I'd think there was something up with it. I don't plan to go higher in power so sachs dmf setup will do me :)

Haha ;) it's not to bad, its a positive feel more than anything. Just takes some getting used to. You can try mine and Kev has a Sachs, I'm sure he won't mind you trying his either. They both rattle aswell. But the rattle is a compromise really :)

I think if your just staying to stage 1 then a DMF is fine :) I wanted mine to be reliable and not have the worry which is why I went for the helix, the rattle doesn't bother me as much and I quite enjoy when people ask why it rattles and I explain to them and they just look at you in a daze.

Yeah have to compromise somewhere. Can't have it all.

Mines not too bad at all for rattles. Darkside have stopped selling the clutch kit I'm running though which is a little concerning

They look good mate! They'll be easier to keep clean than mine are - they get visibly dusty within a day of cleaning them

Looking forward to this then...

Don't say I didn't warn you ;-) ! It's motivation to keep your car gleaming!! Besides, if you don't keep them clean I may have to come through the drive through and give you some stick ha ha!

You got it back yet Dan?

Fair play, you did warn me! I don't fancy being questioned about any dirty wheels, so I think that's enough motivation for me to clean them. I know you'll check up on them when I work as well seeing as you go past quite often haha

Erm no, picking it up Tuesday evening :) a combination of work and struggling for a lift means I couldn't go any sooner.

There was some issues with the manifold for the GTB kit so it has been returned to the guy who makes them to sort, for now I'm borrowing one of Deans hybrid pd150 turbos and a standard down pipe :)

On the plus side though, car is fully serviced, new Cambelt, water pump and octavia VRS rear brake setup fitted!

Ohh and this week I'll be fitting my spiders and machine polishing it with Alex :)

Ahh makes sense who you are now, are you the lad from mold? Not seen you about yet, saying that I haven't been about for 2-3 weeks :P

Yeah that's me mate! I've only had my Fabia since January and with uni I'm not really around that much.

Fairly sure I follow you on Instagram but I've only just read this entire thread, fair does it is impressive stuff! Might have to meet up so I check your car out at some point! Finally had a good look at Alex's on Saturday before he completely puts it back to standard. Some nice black spiders are coming my way as a result though; he's already warned me he might cry when they go onto my car though haha!

Ahh I've not seen you about I don't think. I'm always in Mold, my girlfriend lives local :)

Sounds like a plan to me! Alex' wheels are nice, I'd never been a fan of them till I seen them on his car and liked them that much that I went out and brought a set! I'm kind of glad I didn't go black now as wouldn't want 2 of us having the same wheels now ;)

Don't fancy my leather seats do you? :P

I'm sure you'll see me around sooner or later then! I do love spiders on the fabia, I've wanted some since I got it. Just can't wait to get them on it now

Haha, I sort of expected that question. I did ask Alex how much he wanted for that factory leather (which is f****** well nice) and he mentioned your name, if I wasn't spending money on wheels I might do but I'm a poor uni student so unfortunately I'll be sticking with my standard interior for now.

Just out of interest as well, is it you or Alex who has a machine polisher? I fancy driving round with a red spoiler rather than a pink one haha! He said he machine polished his to get it red again

There's too many red ones about our way now ;-) !

Indeed I think I will cry....!!! Plus I'll see them all the time on my way to work!

They're worth keeping clean though, as when they've been polished up again and sealed they look absolutely stunning :)

Bloody hell Dan, I went to Telford today!!! Could've taken you over... :-/

Someone needs to hurry up and buy Dan's leather!

I'll polish the spoiler for you when we're swapping wheels! ;)   Just make sure it's clean!

  • Author

It's Alex with the machine polisher mate :)

Don't worry my spoiler is pink too! I've tried polishing it by hand but it doesn't last long!

Alex's factory leather is rather nice isn't it. If only I could get some one local with nice standard seats to swap with me :)

Will you actually? That'd be class! Don't worry I'll have cleaned my car by the weekend haha. My end of the deal is getting sweeter by the day here!

What's the best thing to seal the wheels with by the way? I was going to order some stuff from carbon collective, don't know if you've tried that one? I think Dan mentioned it earlier in the thread

  • Author

That carbon collective stuff is good, it's expensive though. I done my wheels twice and probably used half of it maybe less!

Ha ha indeed Tom!

I was planning on using Collinite 476 wax to be honest. I've used Poorboys and Chemical Guys Wheel Guard which both seemed ok. Neither lasts a long time in my opinion though, which is partly why the alloys need a polish now! Collie 476 has a reputation for being very long lasting.

Not heard of that stuff before to be honest...

Fair enough, I think I'll give it a go. Don't mind paying extra for decent stuff

For detailing stuff, there's various websites. I've always used Cleanyourcar   Their service is really good. Saying this, I can't see Carbon Collective on their site...

Failing that, there's CLB valeting at Wrexham Industrial Estate which supplies a lot of the same stuff. Jason there really knows his stuff and is very helpful.

  • Author

Carbon collective isn't really a wax it's more like a permanent bonding clear coat, it's good stuff. I used a microfibre to buff the wheels up after application and the next day the microfibre dried rock solid!

Carbon collective's website says it lasts up to two years as a protective layer! Quite fancy trying out the platinum glass sealant as well, the videos they put on instagram look pretty good; water runs straight up the window while you're driving along

I might go check that place out Alex, I like being able to go and actually talk to people and get ideas/advice.
